Food safety alert: Lund's and Byerly's (Minnesota supermarkets)

Customers still urged to return or destroy ground beef purchased between April 7 and May 7

As a precaution related to an ongoing food safety investigation, Lunds and Byerly’s have changed suppliers of fresh ground beef.

Effective now, all Lunds and Byerly’s stores offer several varieties of fresh ground beef provided by the new supplier. The ground beef has undergone additional testing for E. coli and meets our high quality and safety standards.

Customers are still urged to return or destroy fresh ground beef purchased at any Lunds or Byerly’s stores between April 7 and May 7, 2007. This includes ground beef purchased fresh then frozen at home. It also includes fresh beef patties, fresh or frozen meatloaf and ground chili meat.

Customers can return the ground beef (complete product list below) to any Lunds or Byerly’s immediately for a full refund. (A receipt is not required.)

Organic fresh ground beef, frozen beef patties, beef purchased in the deli and beef sold in our restaurants is not affected.

As a reminder, meat products must be properly prepared at home to be safe to eat. Specifically, beef should be cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degrees as specified in the safe handling instructions that appear on packages of beef offered by Lunds and Byerly’s.

Customers can be confident that Lunds and Byerly’s always strives to offer food products that are safe and of high quality. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank our customers for their understanding and support.
