Sharron Angle's Advice For Rape Victims Considering Abortion: Turn Lemons Into Lemonade
Republican Senate candidate Sharron Angle has moderated a host of policy positions in her transition from a primary candidate to general election contender battling Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. One thing she has not backed away from has been her insistence that abortion should be outlawed universally, even in cases of rape and incest.

In a radio interview Angle did in late June, the Tea Party favorite re-affirmed her pro-life sensibilities (rigid, as they are, even within Republican circles), when she insisted that a young girl raped by her father should know that "two wrongs don't make a right." Much good can come from a horrific situation like that, Angle added. Lemons can be made into lemonade.

The interview, which took place on the conservative Alan Stock Show, was captured and sent to the Huffington Post by a source in Nevada. It is noteworthy primarily to the extent that it shows how doctrinaire Angle's views on abortion really are. The Nevada Republican earlier discussed her beliefs on the topic during an interview with the Bill Manders in which she called pregnancy in cases of rape and incest, "God's plan."

Since then, she's embraced the absolutist label she's been handed on abortion policy, refusing to back down from her statement to Manders during subsequent interviews and, clearly, expanding on it during her sit down with Alan Stock.

1. She has obviously never been raped
Disgusting.

As someone who WAS raped, I find it disgusting that there are "human beings" who think I should carry a rapist's baby.

3. What a horrible woman
She knows not what she says. In other words, she is batshit crazy to suggest that OTHER PEOPLE take the burden of rapist's baby. Walk the walk, "sister," before dictating what other people should do.

Bitch.

4. Women need to march again.
This is a disgusting woman, and multiply her 10 fold with the likes of Palin all all these other women on the right who are being celebrated as the face of the new feminism. It is the old order with a new painted face. I'm so disheartened because I see many young women around who do not see anything wrong with this type of thinking.

Not a good morning. Just saw the Palin Mama Grizzlie video -- prefaced by an ad for a Shanghai hotel with wolves in the snow. And now this. Absolutely pukealicious.

I am Woman Hear Me Roar! Where the hell are the real feminists these days and why are we setting the agenda? There is no real talk about equal pay, comparable worth, day care, family leave, caregiver respite, and decreased work hours for men and so that they can be partners (rather than us pulling up the slack in non-career track jobs so that men can reproduce and work 70 hour work weeks). How about proper pay for 18 year olds so that they can really think about having proper families when and where they choose to have them as opposed to girls getting pregnant and returning home so their Mom's can help them out.

We need to go back to burning bras and marching for equal rights. The media is allowing Palin and her pink elephants to define what women want. I have no desire to go back to the bad old days.

I am ready to put on my sneakers and start marching...and I hate being in demonstrations.

8. yeah but
Remember we need to teach Reid a lesson. So what if such a rat as this gets into office, at least we will send a message to Reid we aren't going to stand for his not getting everything we want exactly as we want it. Oh so what if this idiot gets nothing we want passed, at least we will have stood on our principles. :sarcasm:

Hope this is getting across to certain ones.

14. Unnecessary and inflammatory, Sarge.
I live in Nevada. I think Reid is a weasel of the first order - but I'm not going to vote for Angle 'on principle'. Neither will most, despite what they may say on an internet message board. It is definitely a lesser of two evils choice for me and not a measure of my support for spineless Harry, but I do recognize the lesser of the two evils.

I am getting sick and tired of this message discipline crap. And being told HOW to vote. Or the incredibly tired and inane 'you're either wi' us or a'gin us' argument.

I'm an intelligent, well-educated adult and I don't need to be told what to do or how to do it.

Hope this gets across to 'certain ones', also.

17. like it or not
the truth is that will happen. I am no fan of Reid's but if I lived in Nevada I would vote for the lesser of two bad choices. Sadly some will refuse to vote because they don't care for the lack of toughness Reid shows, and that will cause more chances for victory for Angle. If it bothers you that is the case that is good, but let's hope it bothers enough they will vote for Reid and not refrain. You can bet the Republicans that aren't happy with Angle will suck it up and vote for her and with Democrats who refuse to vote, she could win. If that offends you then good for you but it doesn't change the reality now does it.

20. Your reality, my reality.
As you said, you don't live in Nevada. I do - so I'm going to stick with what I know as a resident of the state, and what I know from living here and interacting with others who live here suggests that what people spout off about on internet message boards and what they do when the rubber meets the road are very often two different things.

Will there be some people who refrain from voting for Reid because he's a worm? Probably - but I will not go as far as you and say it's 'the truth' - it hasn't happened yet and it's not exactly as sure as the sun rising, is it? It is just as possible that there will be some Republicans who simply aren't so far gone that they will 'suck it up and vote' for Angle. Despite popular opinion on DU, not all Republicans are loony nut jobs, foaming at the mouth in their eagerness to wipe out the scourge of liberalism in every guise, so it's pretty foolish to paint them with one broad brush.

Will those two groups of dissenters cancel each other out? I don't know - and neither do you, so it's hardly appropriate to say that the election can be determined in advance simply by the nattering on a message board.

I'm not offended by truth, ever. I do get annoyed with toe-the-line opinion that tries to present itself as truth, which is becoming increasing more common around this place. There's nothing wrong with opinion - like assholes, we all have one. Sometimes one opinion is more valid than another, generally when it is backed up with strong facts. Most of the time opinion is, simply, opinion - and should be presented as such rather than a universal truth.

That's my opinion, and I'm content with it. ;)

19. I have never understood that argument.
I really wish people would just butt the fuck out of other people's business. And the "God's plan" bullshit is nothing more than a self-righteous cop-out.

And I also resent her rather trivial attitude toward rape in general.
