1. Or,
ask them what the optimal tax rate is to bring in the most government revenue, and whether we're above or below that.

Arthur Laffer wrote his famous Laffer curve on the back of a napkin. It's undoubtedly true at very high tax rates, but not even Laffer would go on record as to where he thought the US was on that curve.

3. I like to throw it back at them - "Say! How'd that fabulous buck-98 bush tax cut work out for ya?"
"I bet it covered maybe ONE WHOLE CAR PAYMENT that year, 'eh? Or MAYBE ABOUT HALF of ONE SINGLE SOLITARY insurance premium (yeah, that stuff you fought against getting help for with insurance reform, 'eh?)!!! WOW!!!! How 'bout all the rest of your bills that it didn't cover, when expenses and local taxes and fees started skyrocketing in every direction around you to make up the difference for that fabulous buck-98 tax cut you and your CONservative bush-loving friends just HAD to have?"

All these idiots heard was "Tax cut! "Tax cut!" "Ooooo guess that means they're cutting all my taxes! ALL MY MONEY comes back to MEEEEEEEE!" Well, no it doesn't. They just made you think it did. So you wound up with this fabulously lavish buck-98 tax cut that didn't make a spit-in-the-ocean difference about ANYTHING, and sure didn't make any difference in your bottom line or offsetting ANY of your expenses, DID IT?????

But hey, fuck it! Gimme my buck-98 tax cut!!!! Tax cut!!! Tax cut!!! Gee, I wonder why the library closed... Gee, I wonder why I still can't cover the rest of my insurance premiums - my car payment - my house payment - wasn't that tax cut supposed to be the goose with the golden egg? Solve all my problems! Cut back the gubmnt! Small gmmmt! Hate the gummt! But shit! Hurricane damage! Oil slick! Need the fedrul gmmmt! WHERE ARE THEY??!?!?!?!? WHY aren't they here bailing ME out? Where's MY bailout! Tax cut! Tax cut!!!! Free market!!! Free market!!!!

Just makes me damn near sick to my stomach.

7. Sadly, they may have gotten much more than that. Me, I had an extra $.05 a week
after the tax break. I wanted to take a year's worth, roll it up, and shove it right up his ass.

9. calimary, you just expressed my frustration to a tee.
I feel the same about the t bagger idjits, and those folks that think spending on education shouldn't be a public option.

Thanx much for being so on.

Peace

10. I think that's how we should fight back against all that Fabulous Tax Cut-itis.
Edited on Tue Jun-29-10 10:50 PM by calimary
Demean it and belittle it by calling it "that Fabulous Buck-98 Tax Cut!!!!" Turn it into a joke. Make it sound pathetic and really not that desirable after all. Cover it with Loser Stench, guilt by association, reframe it OUR way. The bad guys are skilled at wording things so that they sound a lot better and far different than the ugly truth about them. WE should do the same thing. Start making something they think is good - sound BAD. Portray it as undesirable, uncool, stupid, and just plain icky. Turn it into a big fat steaming pile of negative.

Tax cut? How far'd it getcha, anyway? Put yer ass on Easy Street with that Fabulous Buck-98 Tax Cut? Was it worth it? Huh? What's that? It wasn't enough? Well, then HERE! Have ANOTHER Fabulous Buck-98 Tax Cut, 'cause that's about all it's gonna be. And maybe this time it'll even make a difference, 'eh? And maybe it'll help you cover about maybe a fifth or sixth of another car payment, 'eh? WOW! THAT'S the ticket! (And I'm sure glenn beck will come over and write you a check out of his personal account to help you out because you so faithfully followed him! And rupert murdoch will be stepping up directly behind him!) And how much more will you have to cough up on everything else while you're complaining that you're getting contaminated food more often and your kid has to go to the emergency room because of it and because the city can't afford to fix the pot holes on your street you just broke the front axle on your car - and that'll probably cost you WAY more than that Fabulous Buck-98 Tax Cut EVER got you.

4. It was factually proved under GWB. With all the taxcuts, Revenues
did not increase. This was reported more than once during
the Bush administration.

8. Tax cuts only increase revenue if we were running a long term surplus
Tax increases will increase revenue as long as the money is spent by the government.

11. Even Reagan got skittish about deficits and raised taxes
Bush had no such bashfulness about running us into the red.
