So, for DU, towards a Democratic (progressive?) US?
Edited on Fri Jun-25-10 11:53 PM by ithinkmyliverhurts
Are we wiling to get on board? And if so, behind what, behind whom, which politicians?

A political partner must do more than just express sympathy, our brother and sister must act. That means different things for different people, of course. Some people don't want to contribute time and activism, and we understand that. Other people can contribute money, finances. But all people, all progressives, if they want to fight, must do something.

Over time it's going to be important for activists and politicians to know they will be held accountable for inactivity. You're either with us or against us in the fight for progressive ideals.

Please note that this post is also directed at me for some of my more unbending posts.

1. Great idea, but this place is dishearteningly divided.
I come here for some of the great posts and fantastic information, but I've never seen a group of people more at each others' throats.

Sad.

2. No, it's democratic.
In a democracy, every opinion has a voice, a vote, a weight. That's what makes it slow, annoying, and endlessly compromised.

Tyranny has only one voice. It works swiftly. And with never a dissenting whisper.

But you are wrong about this board being the worst for being at each others' throats. You haven't been on the General Hospital soap opera boards.

3. And we should all aspire to the standards of a soap opera chat forum.
Thanks for the reminder.

5. Since I'm guessing you don't know the standards, perhaps you want to inform yourself first.
One of the worst problems here comes from people looking down on others from great cloudy heights of smug superiority.

4. I completely disagree
Informal polls and majority sentiment here place the the bulk of the membership in agreement.

There's very little "divided" opinion among members. The majority lean pretty far left, for American politics.

What you're seeing is just a handful of squeaky wheels

Progressive candidates and support them first. That said, I do work to keep Democrats in office because I may influence them if I gather enough voices and point them in the right direction. I have zero chance of achieving desired reformations/goals with a Republican in office. We can't achieve our ends with low to no power. Yes, the odds aren't high that we will with a Blue Dog and it's >certain< we won't with a Republican.

On an unrelated note, I really don't believe BecKKK could complete a broadcast if he was prohibited from using the words Socialist or Communist.

7. progressive Democrats are nearly irrelevant.
The party is thoroughly dominated by the corporate/DLC types now.
