Exactly what is the "New DU"?

I've read Skinner's post about this and it seems that we have a bunch of rules that any civil person would know instinctively. Was there something buried in the rules that I missed? What will be substantially different about this place?

2. The rules aren't new

They didn't really change the rules. The made some tweaks to the enforcement policies. And they will present them in a more prominent place and in a more succinct form. Some of the rules are new to some people.

We're just trying to make it easier for everyone to know what the rules are so that they can make an effort to stay within them. We're also going to make it easier for people to figure out what rule they broke if they do get a post deleted.

The biggest change is probably our plan to prevent people from posting in a thread if they have had a post deleted from that thread. But other than that, the list of rules you saw in Skinner's post is pretty much the same list of rules we've had for the better part of a decade.

Despite protestations to the contrary, really, the rules here can be boiled down to "Support Democrats and progressives", and "Don't be a douche."

Skinner & co. are going to start coding and put together some new tools to enforce those rules, and have the moderators work to enforce the rules more effectively, but really the complaints come from jerks who want to continue bashing, flaming and being assholes, who are being told they can't do that anymore.

Raven, I don't know that there is much new--just reinforcing the rules that have been there, while giving DUers a chance to question and vent, given our recent "period of discontent".... Although there is a plan to restrict access to a thread once you've had a post deleted.

The only new 'rule', imo, is now a person who has a post deleted from a thread cannot continue to post in that thread which, imo, is a positive change and certainly does not equate to a substantial change rather I see it as a 'tweak'.
