new community radio station needs help
http://www.statesmanjournal.com/article/20100620/NEWS/6200365/1001

Salem Statesman (Oregon) June 20, 2010

KMUZ, a hopefully soon-to-be-launched community radio station, has turned
to Kickstarter.com to raise funds.

The idea behind Kickstarter is that anyone, anywhere can contribute to
creative pursuits, but it's an all-or-nothing model. KMUZ has until July
11 to raise $5,000 for a transmitter; if supporters don't raise it, the
funds are returned to donors.

The site's FAQs say the all-or-nothing requirement motivates people and
doesn't leave groups with, say, $2,000 for a $5,000 project.

Pledge amounts start at $10 and go up to $500; KMUZ will offer bumper
stickers, T-shirts and on-air mentions to patrons depending on how much
they donate.

June 7, the group raised $1,200 at a musical fundraiser.

To make a pledge, visit http://budurl.com/KMUZkickstart. For more
information on KMUZ, visit www.kmuz.org.

1. kick for Monday
About this project

KMUZ is Salem's first and only all-local community radio station! No
satellite feeds. No corporate playlists. No commercials. Just relevant
stuff you want to hear.

Like that guy up the street with the insane LP collection. That band you
heard last month at The Space. The fascinating speaker who came to
Willamette University but you were working that night and couldn't go.
News, concerts, and events going on right here in town, covered live as
they happen. Your favorite club, talking about how much fun it is to do
the stuff you do.

We earned our FCC license (a massive paperwork process filled with lawyers
and engineers). We secured a downtown space for our broadcast studio. Now
we have to build the station--one piece of audio gear at a time.

Kickstart us by chipping in toward the heart of the station: our FM
transmitter!

KMUZ will begin broadcasting in 2011. We're not on the air yet, so why
donate?

* For a mere $40, you can become a Charter Member of KMUZ. This gives you
bragging rights and clearly establishes your presence in the next "It"
scene before 99% of the rest of Salem. Once we go on the air, Charter
Memberships will no longer be available.

* Where else can you get a light switch, stapler, or door handle named in
your honor? Your barista won't even do that for you, and how many clams
do you drop there each month?

* It will be your first step towards contributing to the station and
finding your role within it. Will you become a deejay, a producer, our
FCC license administrator, or a smitten listener? They are all equally
important and all depend on support in various forms--time, energy,
expertise, passion, and of course money.

* It will help to bring Salem and surrounding area together as a
community, providing a creative and inclusive outlet for the many
viewpoints represented in our region, celebrating our common strengths
and encouraging mutual support.

Stay tuned, get involved, and BE RADIO ACTIVE!

Our Mission: KMUZ 88.5FM is a non-commercial, educational,
listener-sponsored radio broadcaster whose mission is stimulate, educate
and entertain our audience by reflecting the diverse cultural heritage and
artistic expression of our region, and that of the global community. We
aim to involve our community by sharing music, culture, news and
information not widely covered by the mainstream media. Alert: Suit Talk
Ahead

KMUZ is a project of the 501-(c)(3) non-profit Salem Folklore Community.
Which means this is a tax-deductable donation. SFC also participates in
the Oregon Cultural Trust, so a matched donation to OCT gives you a tax
credit. You can't beat that with a stick.
