Dispersants May Be To Blame For Thousands of Dead Fish In 2 Florida Shore Locations
WCTV - Tallahassee, Thomasville, Valdosta via Alexander Higgins Blog
(Taylor County and Panacea Florida -- East of Apalachicola)

The sight of thousands of dead fish along the Taylor County shores is raising some red flags, but officials have deemed the incident as an “isolated” fish kill and say the oil spill had nothing to do with it. This news comes as two monster tarballs weighing over 1 ton where retrieved off the Florida coast and President Obama has declares Gulf of Mexico seafood safe to eat.

In another Florida county over 90 miles away along the shores of Panacea dead fish are also washing up in the marshes...
Jack Rudloe, a marine biologist and owner of the Gulf Specimen Marine Lab says he got the call about the fish kill over the weekend and in his nearly 50 years of work Rudloe says he’s never seen anything like it.

Officials say that the thousands of dead fish washing ashore in two locations in Florida may be related to low levels of oxygen in the sea. However (Jack Rudloe) says that he believes the toxic chemical dispersant, COREXIT, that BP is using to combat the Gulf oil spill may be to blame.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dead fish found include Pinfish, Pigfish, Gulf Founder and Hardhead Catfish.
Pin fish live in the seagrass beds and are what grouper feeds on.
Could this be the start of the warnings that scientists have given about the effects of COREXIT on the food chain?
5. OMG!
Can you please direct me to a source to look for that? Jeebus from what I've read and seen it's awful in some parts of LA. Bayookeepers is one reference that I saw.
This whole catastrophe just makes me sick, then very angry, then sad, back to angry, sick, sad, and on and on.....
6. We have oil gushing into the gulf, dispersant being used
in quantities never before reached, fish dying in vast numbers never before seen, and all the officials can say is that it has nothing to do with the gusher or chemicals.
No testing, not giving any other reason, just denying. Send the fish out to 10 different labs and have them tested for everything so you know what the hell is going on. Just a bunch ignorant and arrogant people.
13. BP will have private contractors out
patrolling all of the beaches before too long. Trying to scoop up all of the dead fish & animals before they are found by the public & reported.
17. They have been doing that since the get go!!!!!!!!!!!!
patrolling all of the beaches before too long? they have been on our beaches since day one of this disaster!! They own the beaches we are basically told..fuck us..we have no damn rights anymore..this administration has turned over the whole gulf to those bastards..that is what we that live on the gulf have been telling you all..only to be shouted down or have our posts deleted!
People don't want you to know the truth! and they are working overtime to keep the truth from the rest of the nation..
But it isn't just us who will pay a heavy price for the cover up..you will too ..in one way or another..and so will your children and your childrens children!
19. I know they have had security out all along.
But I am thinking that the more environmental damage is reported, things will get thug like...as in Blackwater. So when I say private contractors, I don't mean your average security guard. I think it will soon escalate into something much worse.
I know it will effect my child. Before the spill, she committed to further studies & research in Louisianna. She is a geologist. She will be knee deep in the muck.
8. No one will have to worry much longer about dead zones. The entire GOM
will just become 1 big dead zone.
11. "May be the cause"?
I'll wait for the science....just in case.
It certainly may be, but I hate to act as though there is no doubt,
when even those writing the article don't rightly know for sure.
I do find that kind of journalism to be a bit irresponsible.
There's already so much actually known that could be written about.
Just saying.
But thousands of dead fish is never good....especially considering
the whole fucked up circumstances; that's for sure.
18. Don't bother waiting for science..they have been silenced or the only info you are getting is BP
Edited on Wed Jun-16-10 09:51 PM by flyarm
controlled science!
But not to worry...when you do find out..so many will have cancers that are uncontrollable..and they will lie about that too!
You want to believe these people hired by BP..you go ahead..we on the Gulf don't believe a damn thing any of them say anymore!
12. That's what made me so angry about last nights speech.
Obama was talking about how much oil had been cleaned up. I don't think you can clean up the dispersant. Keith has had people on all week about chemical poisoning to the workers...what do people figure it will do to the wildlife?
They are trying to make the oil appear less ominous by using the dispersment, which is making the problem worse.
My partner is a Buddhist but is more or less syncretist as was Thomas Merton. I was reading the OP in this thread when he carried in a work of art he had made in his folk art style.
Underneath it he'd inscribed the following from the Book of Revelations chapter 16, verse 3:
http://scripturetext.com/revelation/16-3.htm
"The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became blood like that of a dead man; and every living thing in the sea died."
Sometimes I wonder....
