Why do Democrats have to suck up to Repukes to get legislation passed
I dont remember the Repukes having to cater to the Democrats when they had the slim majority..And I dont remember a 60 super majority vote requirement to pass most of the legislation when Repukes had control. These Democrats are spineless and we need term limits now...They can give the banks billions, they suck up to Wall St.but they wont give the working class unemployment benefits without allowing the Repukes to write the extension bill.... These Democrats are spineless ..Oh guess I already said that...

3. Because votes from the center of a political spectrum pass laws that divide those on the extreme
right and left.

4. ...and at the same time have the majority of Americans think Democrats are
"too liberal"!!!

The media has done a great job brainwashing the public over the last 30 years or so...

7. Wait a minute...We have congressman like Grayson who stand up
to the right wingers and we support him overwhelmingly..I'd say he is pretty liberal..I think Democrats are waiting for those "liberal Democrats" to show up because sucking up to Repukes is not what we gave them the Majority for..
What have we really gained as far as real legislation to benefit us? Its is always watered down and then they have to sell it to us by telling us how great certain legislation is when in reality its worthless.(Yes like the healthcare care bill)..
So my point is when the REpukes had control they slammed legislation through on a fast track pace..They drafted bills behind closed doors and Democrats just sat there and were told to vote and they voted without any debate..Now Democrats are acting like Republicans..No we need real liberals because we need those in Congress that can tell Repukes to go get &$%*( and get away with it...

17. I agree! The idea that current Democratic congress members ate too liberal is absurd, but
evidently widely held...

Remember many on the right thought McCain was a Democrat...

You are right, the GOP never seems to have problems passing the most outrageous shit (Donut holes, etc)while we struggle to extend unemployment benefits...does not balance out at all...

5. Because....
...you need the votes of all the Democratic Democratic senators, and most of the votes of the Republican Democratic senators, to put together a majority.

The Republicans can rely on all of the Republican senators, plus the Republican Democratic senators.

Put it another way -- the 51st Senator, ideologically, is someone like Tester, or Bayh. It's not Sheldon Whitehouse.

6. weak leadership.
Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away they used to beat the dems into submission to get bills passed. Now everyone just goes off the reservation when they need their faces in the news.

9. I agree..See I grew up when we had real Democrats
in Congress and we had all those liberal leaders you refer to.
And now they all think they hve to govern from or run their campaign from the center..Well I really think that real liberals would make it just fine..If we had Congressmen that were willing to get in there and just kick ass then those would be the ones that could help us take our Democracy back from the Corporate control..As long as we have these wimps in there the corporate power group will continue to gain power..So we need real liberals...

14. what is good about beating people into submission?
:wtf:

If people don't want something, they should not be forced into it. That's the idea of a representative government.

8. We don't. Why we do anyway is another question.
The answer to that question is not pretty.

13. Republicans march in lockstep
In fact, in this administration, they do it more than ever. Every single one of them voted against the stimulus in the House.

They have no reasonable people left, Snowe and Collins are about it.

Further, Rs don't want the government involved in anything more, so they don't have ambitious agendas. Ds are trying to get the government involved in what it was not involved in before. In this country that is harder to do.

16. There was a 60 vote supermajority needed - meaning no privitization of SS or ANWR drilling
In the dysfunctional 109th Congress both of these things were stopped - even though the Republicans had 55 votes. Remember we have gotten most things we wanted out.
