4. Don't forget, Kennedy was criticized for saying this:
"My father always told me that all businessmen were sons of bitches, but I never believed it till now."

If Obama said anything like that, he'd be accused of being a Marxist!

25. Yes, indeed.
An infamous book was released shortly before Dallas, that "proved" JFK was a commie enemy-of-the-state. By sheer coincidence, it was authored by a CIA employee named Victor Lasky.

36. You know, looking back to that trip, so many people didn't want him to go
to Dallas and that was before teevee was 24/7 and before the internets. It was in the air and people felt it. My mom worked 40+ hours and my grandmother didn't even speak English but I remember them talking over my head about how he shouldn't go there.

12. Obama is a prisoner of his ideology, not his temperament.
Edited on Tue Jun-15-10 09:06 PM by mix
He is essentially a neoliberal technocrat...the market and the experts will solve everything, except when they don't.

That's what prayer's for.

Then we don't have much of a country left.

And political involvement is just a giant circle jerk.

I refuse to believe that.

while I was visiting family in the Bible belt.
The combination has left me a little depressed and cynical.
Nonetheless, we have to keep moving forward.

27. Where Did You Take YOUR History Classes ???
No, it's not part of the job description, but it's part of what every President is forced to ponder. Otherwise there would be no need for a Secret Service.

What I was responding to, was the above poster who implied that JFK took on powerful interests, and got shot for his meddling. If the poster believes that, and thinks that the President (ANY President) would be wise to watch his back if he dares to mess with with those powerful forces...

Well then if that's true... in my opinion, our experiment in Democracy has failed.

If a President moderates his beliefs and policies based on the fear of getting shot... we're done.

32. So a democracy is done, as you put it, whenever a president moderates
his beliefs or policies on the fear of getting shot. What's the difference whether its getting shot or not getting re-elected?

Either / or may already have happened for all we know and yet here we are.

And since you are interested in my "History classes"...I double majored in undergrad and one major was in the field of History.

30. Little dramatic reply dear.
You can't expect to criticize a companies decision making or its CEO's and then expect one person in one office of the government to somehow make up for scores of regulation screw up's. Its not rational.

So which is it? Obama the President of the United States or Obama the CEO of the United States?

31. No, No, No... I Post A Video Showing JFK Using The Bully Pulpit Against...
a major U.S. industrial cartel, embarrassing them and almost calling them unAmerican on National TV, and you tell us... so what, he got shot, what did that get us???

JFK was My/Our President trying to shame the hell out of the greedy bastards running a major industry in this country, to the detriment of this country. And... trying to get them to reverse their policy.

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT MY PRESIDENT TO DO!!!

I have to ask... what do you want from a president???
