Haley can't add, bless his heart

Dr. Joe Campbell • June 14, 2010

<snip>Our governor has seen fit to attempt to cut $14 million from Medicaid in the Mississippi 2011 budget, the last line of health care for the poor and disabled in our state.

Because we are the poorest state in the Union, Mississippi gets $3 in federal matching funds for every dollar our state puts into Medicaid. So this $14 million cut is really a $56 million loss to the Mississippi Medicaid program.

Now, $56 million is real money and if these cuts are included in the 2011 budget, hundreds of thousands of Mississippi citizens on Medicaid will lose some medical access and benefits. A multiplier effect on the state economy places the losses at over $100 million in lost economic activity to the state.

The economic activity and resulting state tax revenue gained by the Federal matching funds will partially offset the core cost of these Medicaid funds.

Also I must point out that Mississippi has the most unhealthy population per capita in the nation.

We lead the nation in renal failure, obesity, hypertension, teen highway deaths, drunk driving deaths, teen pregnancy, fetal and maternal mortality and diabetes.

2. What does a state gain by cutting a federal program. I know they
are in debt but they are just cutting the amount of money they receive for mandated programs.

7. Pawlenty did the same in Minnesota.
he has ruined this state. I am so damn glad to see him go I don't know what to do. He cut medicaid and is making those who were unable to either pay to get into the Minnesota Care program or they will have to drop out. but yet he is trying his best to get that new stadium for the Twins. Which by the way will only benefit the area of Bachmann's district. ALL DAMN REPUBLICANS.
