60 minutes - NOW I'm scared...
They are here.
In the grid.
In the banking system.
In the defense department systems.
In the electrical grid and all of it's sub-systems.
Wall Street.
Everywhere.

I didn't know that the chips that are in our ATM's, cell phones, your work station, power control systems, nuclear weapons, emergency generators are all made overseas and often left with "malicious" code embedded deep into it's programming.

Random USB pocket drives were spread all over the defense department that when used activated a code that made all of the information on the device that it was plugged into available to well...
That's the question.
Who?

Kansas City.
Late August.
Yesterday it was 113 at about 6:30pm.
At 7pm "they" shut down KCPL (Kansas City Power & Light) by sending commands to burn all of their massive generators up and render them useless.
Then "they" take the back up systems out.

Kansas City 11pm.
No power.
Anywhere.
Everything is dark and it's hot.
How long until THAT brings us to our knees?

The interesting part of 60 minutes tonight was that I learned that "the previous administration" could give a fuck about this.
Imagine my surprise.

NOW, I'm scared.

3. I live not far from KC
The other evening we had horrific storms; lightening, thunder, torrential rain and some hail. I couldn't believe that my weather radio/ NOAA, did not go off once. Others contacted media outlets to voice their concerns as well. What was going on? I cannot recall a time that the NOAA radio did not issue an alert. Was this a test run? No tin foil hat here, but it does seem curious.

4. When they get medical...
When they're inside YOU you've got less control than that. This is global, not another country vs. the US. cyberhacking between supposedly "fighting" nations is partially an illusion. The power is centralized, we are pawns on the fringe. Scan your hand to buy your groceries.

7. "For our own good." Inside medications, to make sure we take them. "FOOG." In children. "FOOG."
ETC.

And pop albums such as Christina's "Bionic" will condition the young to think being technologized is cool.

5. Well, there's our future. A massive educational program that

teaches people how to build chips and do good machine language programming, new Intel-like and Applied Material-like companies - rebuild and replace all the equipment mentioned above with "American Certified" hardware. That would be a recession crippler.

Now if we can just figure out how to keep the right-wingers from insisting there building in cameras that peer into our bedrooms, or monitoring for "subversive" speech (ie, anything Democratic)...

8. I worry less about technology
And more about the fact that America's food sources are not secure, and they are not American all too often. We are NOT secure, despite all the money the DOD gets. We are horribly insecure but lots of people got very rich selling us on the need for defense that isn't any defense at all.

9. Exactly
They are not concerned with the real existential threats to America and more concerned with fictional terrorism threats.

13. They're not all made overseas
I used to work in a chip plant here in the US, and I was aware of quite a few of them in my local area. The company I worked for had about a dozen plants in Taiwan, and they're not going to screw with us, if they need us against the mainland Chinese some day.

This article sounds like full blown paranoia.

14. And you know Congress won't to anything about it until we have a debilitating disaster.
Then all the Republicans that will prevent any protections from being implemented will blame Obama for not implementing protections.

We are really screwed.
I'm kind of sorry for my kids.
They'll be living in this increasingly insane world a lot longer than I will.
