Is the oil spill BP's karma for cutting corners and putting
people and nature in danger or is their karma for killing off the Gulf of Mexico yet to come?

1. No, it's not. If it were,
it would only be biting BP's ass. It's biting ours, too, and every living creature in, on, or near the Gulf. While humans, especially energy-hogging Americans, have responsibility for this, the dolphins and sea turtles, the pelicans and other wildlife do not.

"Karma" is just another belief in superstition, and I don't buy any of it.

7. Karma has a lot to do with cause and effect as well as superstition
But is is more complicated that what the OP suggests.

3. While I won't say they don't cut corners themselves. They do come...
...a lot closer to best practice than BP. And on one critical marker, repeated infractions that are a direct threat to life and limb, BP outnumbers the entire rest of the industry several hundreds to one.

They're certainly not lilly white, but in comparison to BP, they are at worst a very pale caramel.

5. Won't argue with you there. But generally spills are an indirect threat.
What I am talking about is a blatant disregard for human life. Their judgement that it is cheaper to pay out on death benefits than to prevent the deaths. Going by the record, other oil companies are far lees cavalier with people's lives at least on the job.

Like the mine in WV, BP has a string of infingments where because it was cheaper to pay the fine (especially after talking it down) than fix the problem, they simply payed when they couldn't weasle out and continued with operations unchanged.

6. Not any more than it's karma if I drink 10 beers, go driving, hit another driver& kill both of us.
It's the natural consequence of my stupid and reckless behavior.
