...

Officer Mark Delight was charged by Pierce County prosecutors Tuesday. If convicted of reckless driving and assault, his law enforcement career in Washington could be over. State law says officers can't be convicted felons.

...

The victim, Tim McCreary, says Delight pulled a gun on him. McCreary also says Delight never identified himself and wasn't wearing a uniform.

According to court papers, it was not until Delight had McCreary "on the ground with the gun pointing at him that he realized Delight was a police officer."

...

McCreary says Delight didn't move his car when a stop light turned green, so McCreary honked his horn and passed him. But Delight sped up and rear-ended McCreary's car.

2. More Stupidity...
I'm not a cop hater, but it's clear that lack of discipline among police officers is an epidemic and must be addressed.

I recall a local cop (who I knew) who got in trouble for waving his gun a few years back. Whenever I talked with him, he seemed like a great, upright guy. He was known and liked by many people and considered a model officer, so the news came as a shock to me.

My uncle was a cop for 27 years and retired recently. He says he's glad to be out, and that the degree of nanny law enforcement and number of undisciplined young punks who wind up becoming cops makes it hard to get legitimate police work done, and alienates the public.

IMO, it's more a moral problem than anything else. We need more boy scouts as police, and less ex-high-school jocks.

5. Just speaking colloquially, of course.
I mean that there was an increasing push to deal with vice-related crimes, like marijuana or underage drinking.

For example, neighboring state passed a law that said that parents giving any amount alcohol to underage children (any age) in their own home could be arrested for child endangerment, and he was nervous that such a law would pass in his own state, and that such laws would make policing unnecessarily intrusive into peoples lives, not to mention create a lot of busy work for his department.

He's conservative, but more of a libertarian conservative, and is one of the few cops I know who are readily in favor of legalizing weed.
