Welcome to post-racial America
http://rollingout.com/newsapolitics/news/9690-black-child-removed-from-school-white-teacher-allergic-to-afro.html
<snip>
In Seattle, Wash., a white male teacher had an 8-year-old African American girl removed from the classroom. In most cases, children are removed for behavioral and disciplinary issues, which is clearly understandable and acceptable; however, this wasn’t the case here.

The teacher removed the girl, claiming her Afro was making him sick. Naturally, the father of the child, Charles Mudede, was extremely concerned after the incident, and, as a result, the girl, who was the only black child in the advanced-placement class, has missed two weeks of school.

The incident, which occurred at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School, was featured on KIRO-TV. The segment showed the hair product the girl used, Organic Root Stimulator's Olive Oil Moisturizing Hair Lotion, as well as interviews with her mother and lawyer.

While the girl was eventually relocated to another class down the hall, the fact remains that such a decision could be made by a teacher alone, without the school contacting the parents directly — especially given the implications on the surface of a white teacher picking on a single black child as being the origin of his allergy. The NAACP stated that it will file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education.

This man is still in a classroom??

1. Okay...I'm going to go out on a long limb here and say maybe it was
making him sick...HOWEVER...did he forget about PARENT/TEACHER conferences or is he just that incompetent in his own skills?

6. It does sound that way.
I suffer from chronic allergies and don't just write people off when they use that 'excuse'.

2. No one stays unemployed for long disrespecting black people in this country.
Pat Buchanan spews all kinds of racists shit, has for years, and is still employed. Rather telling on how "valued" black and brown citizens are in this country is it not?

5. Her afro was making him sick?
What the fuck does that even mean? To treat anyone that way is inexcusable, but an eight year old CHILD? If this is true, his ass needs to be fired - pronto.

8. I worked for a very high profile, nationally known woman down here
in Palm Beach. She lectured every few days that "absolutely no perfume, of any kind was to be worn. I am allergic and it kills my sinuses." After getting to know her a little better I asked her how she made out at all of those luncheons and meetings she attended with the Chanel hitting you square before you stepped in the door. She was not amused...LOL.

10. I can understand a perfume allergy
but please explain how an Afro can cause an allergy. How come the only black child in the class caused his allergy - maybe he is allergic to intelligent black kids. This makes no sense at all.

12. The "intelligent black kids" is where his problem lies. B of E needs
to oust him for discrimination.

9. Afro making him sick?
What the hell was he doing so close to this eight-year-old girl's hair style so consistently that it made him sick? Sounds suspicious to me. Classrooms are big enough that he doesn't have to be that close to her.

13. There are pretty nasty solvents in lots of hair products
but hair products are so commonly used, how do you single out one person (I guess among 8 year olds it might be easier).

still, if i were him (and this is assuming he isn't full of sh*t which he may be)...before i selected one kid to kick out because of her hair (basically), i would have gotten someone else to help deal with the issue and figure out what the policy was and if it was being applied fairly.
