BP Tries to Block Photos of Dead Wildlife

As of Friday morning, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s tally of dead animals collected in the Gulf area was 527 birds, 235 sea turtles (six to nine times the average rate), and 30 mammals, including dolphins. Yesterday morning, the spill washed over Queen Bess Island (called “Bird Island” by locals), which is a habitat for Louisiana brown pelicans, the state bird that was once an endangered species. Forty-one of the birds were coated with oil, and that number is expected to rise.

Have you seen the terrible pictures of all this carnage? Neither have I. And neither has anyone else.

Wonder why? The New York Daily News reported on Wednesday that BP has ordered its contractors not to share pictures or otherwise publicize the scores of dead and injured wildlife.

1. Why does BP have the power to dictate what information the American people can have?
Who in the hell is in charge in this country?

7. The only thing about President Obama's handling of this crisis
that angers me is why he hasn't stepped in to stop BP from blocking photographers from land that BP does not own, and why he didn't insist that OSHA regulations provide BP's cleanup workers with hazard gear from the start. I also wish he had or would still create government jobs cleaning up the oil so that BP was not the only employer in town.

I'm pleased that the president has appointed federal prosecutors, but I wish he would take charge of the above details and stop BP's coverup and abuse.

So that's one of your issues addressed. The HazMat gear seems to be a no-brainer to me, too, as does creating new jobs for the clean-up. Hopefully those will also be addressed soon.

11. Thanks Sister for the update.
OSHA did step in this weekend to order haz-mat gear. It just irritates me it took sick workers and monthes before this was done.

6. Ummmm......
Where are the pictures taken by residents and by media?

How come the folks who live on the beaches and in the Gulf region don't host their own website and post their own pics depicting the tragedy?

Not excusing BP mind you.
