Won't mow the lawn until BP stops the leak. I am thinking about
putting a sign to that effect in my yard and seeing whether it gets overgrown before they fix the oily gusher of death.

1. What will you have in common with BP?
Annoying your neighbors.

really don't think folks here will have much annoyance left for me....

41. Statements of a sincere intent...
"Annoying your neighbors..."

Statements of a sincere intent which compels us to look at our bad habits usually have that effect.

gusher is stopped.

Clothing? Food containers? Electronics? Shoes?

6. You can still buy those old fashioned push mowers with no engine
Kind of a pain to get them from the hardware store to your house on a bicycle though.

26. I would use a unicycle to save on rubber. Seriously, the amount
of gas the ambulance would use rushing me to the hospital would power my mower for a couple of years.

10. Folks- I don't think I am game for a push mower at my age in this
heat. The lawn is not very big, the backyard is plants, pavers and stone, i.e., zeriscaped.

I discussed this plan with my neighbor, who said she'd do it if we did.

Probably came up with some other chickenshit excuse for not actually reducing your oil consumption.

18. So if the only acceptable options are perfection or doing nothing, why try at all?
Here are two things an unmowed lawn will do:

1) Annoy your neighbors

2) Provide a haven for dangerous critters.

Yes, I consume products that come from oil.

However, I make a conscious effort to not drive so much.

Why haven't you done the same?

If you have, please tell us about it so we can learn from you.

19. I drove a Geo Metro for 13 years until it recently became a
safety hazard. The car I bought to replace it gets better mileage. My wife walks to work. We keep the a/c set at 80 degrees. As carbon footprints go, mine is smaller than most.

My neighbors here are cool with the idea. The lawn will just look like the ones on all the foreclosed properties in the neighborhood.

As far as dangerous critters are concerned I am old enough to say "Get off my lawn!"

If I want to go somewhere I walk or ride a bike.

What the fuck is stopping you from trying that?

Other than the fact that you're a chickenshit.

Can't some people bother to read through a thread before they lean, slobbering, over their keyboards, eager to rapidly type their way-too-defensive, caustic, knee-jerk bleating?

hey, rzemanfl, sounds like a fine plan to me, especially if all the neighbors join in.

If not, you can always cover it with rocks Arizona style.

Letting it grow out of control will only make you angrier and be a headache to clean.

It still uses energy, but it's less polluting than a gas mower and it's not as likely to give any of the fat slobs who live in this house a heart attack like a push mower. :P
