http://www.fontenelleforest.org/The weather is clearing from last nights storms. I just took a look at the damage from this storm.
The other side of our backyard fence is a tree reserve not included as part of the forest, even though they join. Back in Oct. of 97 an out of season snow storm hit the area. Trees hadn't dropped their leaves yet. More than 10% of the trees in the area were destroyed. Many that survived the event were damaged so bad, they could not withstand another storm. In Aug. of 99 a storm that brought 13 inches of rain brought down many of these damaged trees. June of 2008 brought another storm that took 10% of the trees in the area. Two storms this week have brought down many more trees around us. The full count won't be know for a month or so. In our immediate surrounding area of 100 yards in any direction, over a dozen trees have disappeared in the 3 & 1/2 years we have lived here.
Add in the deer over population doing damage, and the picture by nature professionals is very ugly.
The cause is fossil fuels. Drill baby drill.
