High school sweethearts is something...

My wife and I met online. At first she didn't really want anyone to know because she thought weirdos and losers met on the internet. She said it was not a "romantic" way of meeting. Funny thing is that is was such chance that we met despite being so close. She worked as a teacher in an alternative high school and I am a case manager for people with developmental disabilities. I had many students in her school, but we never met through our respective jobs. I was on a website just kind of getting back into the dating scene after my divorce. Actually about 2 years after. She was just passing time before she went off to graduate school. Her sister put up a gag profile, but she took it down and put up slightly more serious information. I had just gone out with another lady and we had hit it off okay. I went on the site one day at work to see if I had any mail, which I rarely got. I noticed someone from the town where I live was online so I checked the profile. I was very hesitant to do anything cause there was no picture on the profile (call me shallow, but I had really awkward experiences with a couple of blind dates). I had my picture up and I always try to be as honest as possible in my representation to others, so I was wary. She had some question about crop circles, which I thought was pretty unique, so I answered it. She responded, we started emailing then talking on the phone, then set up a meeting about a week later. We met briefly for coffee but I was hooked. I actually went back and cleared out my profile. I was done. I called the lady I had gone out with prior and told her I had met someone. So we set up our first date on July 22. I traveled to visit my family just prior to our first date and disaster struck. I severely sprained my ankle. I thought about canceling the date and she was okay with it given my condition. We went through with it though. I had my cane and soft shoe going on. She told me she was moving about 500 miles away for school. So we left it up in the air, but I was determined. I kept in contact with her and visited as often as I could her first year of school. We moved her back up closer to home (only about 75 mile away) when she transferred her graduate program. We have had our ups and downs but we have been together for 7 years and married for 3.

My husband and I just celebrated our 15th. A major decision point was when my father died. I'd gone into work early to clean up a few things before setting out to visit him that day, and I got a call there that he'd died. I staggered home and the future Mr. Catrose put on my CD of the Brahms Requiem when I arrived. Nobody but maybe another musician would have put on music, and nobody but he would have chosen Brahms, which grieved and howled for me while I went through the motions of the death tasks.

My husband and I have known each other since the summer we graduated high school in 1965, went to college together, got engaged, then he got cold feet and we broke up while he went on to graduate school and I went on with my life. Needless to say, some 28 years later we found each other again, surprise, surprise.....through the internet and finally finalized that long engagement and married in 1998. I was a jock back then. Football. I was part of the in crowd. My freshman year in Jr. High I started dating a girl I had known since grade school. Many of you may remember when I posted the week before Christmas 07 that my first daughter was adopted out at birth. She came looking for her birth parents. Bobbi turned out great. Answers for all of us involved. Cindy's dad wouldn't allow us to see each other after the pregnancy became known. Everybody knew. Just as we started our Jr. year, we broke up. A few weeks later I asked Marta for her phone number. We hit it off from the start. More later.

Mr. Emmadoggy and I are approaching our 22nd. We met at Tech school where we were both in the same program. I was a year older and he was 2 years older than the other students in our program, so of course, we felt like we were SO much more mature, lol. We did hit it off and became fast friends. I was dating someone else at the time and used to talk about it with future hubby - we were friends, right? Within a couple months, that relationship fizzled. Mr. Emmadoggy and I were growing closer and closer, spending a lot of time together. I still thought of him as just a friend, but I later found out he was secretly hoping for more. One night, something happened. We were at a party and probably drunk and somehow ended up making out, lol. I sorta freaked out about it and tried to just make things go back to the way they were (I had had good girl/guy friendships ruined that way before). Then, I went home for Christmas and at our family celebration at my Grandma's house, my Grandma hands me an envelope addressed to me. It was a letter from Mr. Emmadoggy! I was confused about how she had it, so she explained that the letter had been sent to another person in my hometown who happens to have my same first and last names. My address was actually from a neighboring town, even though I am "from" the town I call my hometown. I was mortified that the letter was open. Upon reading it, Mr. Emmadoggy professed having feelings for me and asked if he was just going to be a "make out at a party guy". Ouch. I was in turmoil. Didn't know what to do. Stewed about it all during Christmas break. When it came time to head back to school, I don't remember exactly what the situation was, but I was upset and things at home with my family were tense (for some reason). I headed back to school and just flat out didn't want to be around my roommates. All I could think about was that I wanted to go be with Mr. Emmadoggy. He made me feel good, he made me feel understood, he didn't judge. I could be myself and relax with him. He was funny and sweet. With him was where I wanted to be. When I look back on it now, it is a bit mystifying to me. My feelings that night were so unusual. It was such a strong sort of urge that I needed to be with him. So I no more than walked in the door of my apartment before I called him and asked if I could come over. He said yes, and from then on we were a couple. We were married 20 months later, 3 months after finishing school and have been wonderfully happy together ever since!

When I got fired in 1980 for the legally protected activity of union organizing, that was crushing. It was the Reagan recession to boot. I couldn't find work. I had 10 weeks work as a paid picket on a strike line over the summer of 82. That was the only real work I had until the summer of 83. It would be 1984 before I got a back pay check for being fired. At least Marta had union pay and benefits through the CWA at US West the entire time. Having a good home life when we were kids helped I'm sure. More on Marta and I later.

My wife and I have only been married for 23 years. I did a lot of groveling and pleading for 10 years before I wore down her resistance and she said yes. Two great things that night, she said yes (finally!) and Penn State won their second national title.

There have been less than perfect times, but I was lucky enough to be able to marry my best friend. Through all of the health problems, job losses, more health issues...well you get the idea, we always knew that love was only a hug away.

115. My husband and I were set up by our sales managers while we worked at 2 diff hotels.

His sales managers were visiting our sales manager for a cocktail reception, and they thought they would play match maker... We did talk at first. We had to call each other for rates and availability. Between down time and boredom, we'd talk most nights. However, I was still back and forth with an ex and he was ending a relationship, so we didn't pursue anything romantic.. Until I moved to another town completely. I guess absence makes the heart grow fonder. So a few days before Sept 11, we made our relationship official. That day made a lot of people re-examine what was important and who they wanted to be close to during that horrifying moment. 1 yr later we moved to FL, 4 yrs later we married (eloped--I really recommend that route, weddings are too stressful), and now, we just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary.

If we make it to 10, we renew our vows on a cruise ship.. our families are really hoping we make it for a great excuse for a fun cruise.. LOL.

We've been married for 41 years last month.

I picked my husband up while cruising downtown. (It was the 60's) We are complete opposites. I couldn't imagine it lasting 6 months. I was only 16 when we met. Married at 18. But he has this lazy muscle in his lip and the greatest lopsided smile. My heart still melts whenever he smiles.
Anyway,
