Conservative GNP in Korea does poorly in Municipal elections
Despite their attempts at exploiting the Cheonan tragedy and the moderate popularity of the President the conservative GNP

South Korea held provincial, mayoral, council and school superintendent elections on Wednesday and the ruling GNP party finished with only 3 Mayoral victories and 3 Provincial Governors victories (all of which were incumbents).
The Main Opposition took two Mayor races and 5 Provincial Governorships (only 2 of which were incumbents)
Minor Parties of the left won 1 Mayor and 2 Provincial Governorships.

As big is the number of council seats (Provincial and City) and School Board positions that will go to the Opposition Parties as well.

Other stories of importance, the GNP did really poorly in Gangwon Province, a GNP stronghold, (and a province that is steeped in history, including Heartbreak Ridge from the Korean War) went for the opposition parties or the GNP splinter party in many instances.
