I have a question which you folks can probably answer:
So there's all this oil about 13000 feet under the one-mile deep ocean.
So they have drill thru 13000 feet of God-knows-what to wind up nearly four miles down from the surface...
So this is ostensibly one of the largest oil fields in the world
So this oil formed from condensed vegetation of the dead persuasion this far under bedrock
So the question of the day is:

How did all this happen in much less than 6000 years?

1. You need to think like a creationist.
It did not form from condensed vegetation.

It was put there by the creator in its current form.

7. Yes...
I shall think like a Creationist, so if I step out of my window right now, He will, if appropriate, protect the poor civilian upon which I fall...or maybe there'll be angels to lift me up and back into my window...hoo nose?

5. right..so Why TF
would He, in his Infinite Wisdom, put oil that far underground in such a way that we would have to significantly destroy His works to get to it?

So He foresaw the gasoline engine...OK...and He foresaw incompetent offshore drilling....OK...and He is teaching us another Lesson of Job...

got it!

4. Bedrock?
No, it's all sedimentary deposition, of deep sea facies, necessarily on top of bedrock. This means that most of the kerogen source is phytoplankton.

But yeah, this doesn't support young earth creationism. :hi:

If God didn't want us to pollute the earth he wouldn't have put the oil there in the first place.

My only question is why didn't God refine it first?

forcing us to do bad things with the stuff God puts here.

9. Divine intervention
Just as the man said.

But adding to that, this was put there so man could figure out how to use it to destroy God's creations.

21. He did it to test whether we were still obeying his laws. After all, ...
...cotton/polyester blends are banned by the Book of Leviticus! Sadly,
so many disco dancing fools made the wrong choice, and so now are
condemned to burn in real Hell as well as fashion hell.

19. Creationists Have Two Answers:
(1) Oil and coal were formed by concentrations of vegetation that happened during the flood. Their argument is that geology we see as as the result of long-term steady-state processes can happen much more quickly during massive catastrophes. This argument does not really hold water given the scale of hydrocarbon deposits.

(2) They believe that much of earth's oil is abiogenic, meaning that is was not formed by plant life but from free nonliving carbon. This is not quite as ridiculous a suggestion, and there are a few scientists who hold this point of view. (I must admit, it would be nice if it were true.)

(3) They believe the earth was created by God millions or billions of years ago. It used to be that young-earth creationists (the 6000-year crowd) were in the minority. That may no longer be true.

There are people, believe it or not, who are attempting to interpret geological evidence in terms of a created rather than an evolved earth. I think they're nuts, but well-educated cranks have always been with us.
