students raising money or 'panhandling'?
I've experienced this in LA. Kids at gas stations, outside stores, selling the candy. Sometimes after dark.

Oakland students raising money or 'panhandling'?

Remember the days when student fundraisers entailed selling cookies or washing a few cars? Well, it appears that kids at St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church Private School in Oakland (map) are going above and beyond the call of duty to raise money. According to a report by Anna Werner of CBS5, school principal Pastor Robert Lacy and other men have been dropping off students in downtown San Francisco. There, the kids have been standing on sidewalks with their trays of snacks and asking for donations from passersby.

The students claim they did this five days a week, after or during school, and that they worked well into the evening or even late at night. And sometimes they were alone. The May 20 video above shows a 10-year-old boy by himself at 8:20 p.m.

One boy said he raises "at least $100 to $175 every day." The donations would fund construction of a new building, said one kid. Werner reports there were no building permits issued for the church's property. Another kid said they were raising money for a trip to DC -- a journey that apparently never happened.

1. Jesus' cult has gone Hare Krishna on the fundraising.
Well, you know what they say. At the end of the day, god gotta have him some money. Or something like that.

2. As I sit here trying to find the words I wish to write
The only thing I can come up with now is that I am very angry with so called religious people. They care for no one except themselves and the beliefs they hold. If you do not agree with them you are excluded. After reading the Bible I do not remember reading anything in there that one needed to exclude anyone.

If they ever took the time to really look into a mirror they would find a very disgusting sight.

5. It's time to stop the broad-brushing. This has been explained over and over and over on DU, and
I'm sure you must have caught at least one of those explanations, which means that you just choose to keep broad-brushing.

That is against the rules, and I will start alerting on it.

7. No, see, it's different
I'm not sure how, because as many times as I've asked the moderators and the administrators, I've gotten no response whatsoever, not even the courtesy of an acknowledgment of my question. But apparently it's very different if a grifter or a thief or an abuser or an oppressor uses religion as his or her blind. Then it's okay for folks to post blanket condemnations of all religions everywhere, and by extension, you can tar all people of faith with that brush. I'm not sure why, but it's indisputably true. So alert all you want, but it's apparently not against the rules, despite the rather plain language in the rules.

9. I guess when all people of faith on DU start complaining, and if that doesn't work, withholding
contributions, it might sink in. ?

A "good faith effort", so to speak?

It also doesn't apply to poor folk.

I guess they just like to offend people.

10. Personally speaking
I don't have a problem with it, this is what happens when people get angry, and anger is a HUMAN trait. I'll listen and not consider this as a personal attack against me or my beliefs, just a person who cares and goes into rant mode.

If you know that you're not involved in this kind of behavior, then why feel as if it's an attack on you?

3. As a wise Carlin once observed
He NEEDS money. He always needs money. He's all-powerful, all-knowing and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money.
