Please be patient with me for a minute...
I've always felt that being able to talk about the problems of the day was a necessity. That the only way to improve our health, our education, and to start being serious about our environment 'troubles' was participate in reaching a group decision.

But I'm so tried of people, who think themselves 'good christians', unwilling to help the poor. Of people willing to forgo the benefits of real health care reform for themselves, because it would also help "those people". People trained to recited sound bites from Faus News and think that that counts as a logical augment. Tired of putting layer after layer of simple, honest, reasonable truths in front repugs only to have them refuse it. (Those that still talk to me won't even admit that the sun rises in the east! And no-I'm not making that up!)

When I even mention the oil spill this past week the respond I received from most folks was "Huh?" An event of that size and significants and few of them care?

I started this post hoping it would help me with the rage that I'm feeling right now, but it only seems to be building up. So I'm off to get my recycling ready (maybe crushing a few cans will help), and do what small good that I can.

2. I understand what you're saying
as I hear a lot of "Huh?" too. Unfortunately, we cannot make people care, we can only hope to inspire some people to care. It is very disheartening.

All of the thoughtful acts that we do count and take heart that there are many people who do care. Keep doing what you can and thank you reminding me that I need to get my recycling ready too. :)

3. I think a lot of it is that the media is not truly reporting this apocalypse accurately...
whteher from incompetence, the BP Black-out, or simply because they're taking their marching orders from their corporate masters.

6. I have recently come to the conclusion...
...that we simply need to write those people off.

My handle is The_Commonist because I believe that we are all in this together.
There are things that we all have in common (The Commons?) such as the need for clean air and water, healthy food and a rational approach to problem solving. And I do believe that the majority of people understand this.
However, there really are some people who will NEVER get it, and I have started thinking that we simply need to marginalize them. Write them off. Stop dealing with them. Don't argue, just do the right thing. Eventually they will either start to get, or die off.

I don't know, maybe that's too harsh...
