Druids have been hired to build Stonehenge's to drain 'negative energy' from accident areas.
Rocky Roads
Stone me! Motoroway bosses have hired a full-time team of druids to build a series of mini Stonehenge monuments to drain 'negative energy' from accident blackspots. The team - which has secretly been working for Austrian authorities for two years - is said to have reduced fatal accidents at one notorious crash site to zero after restoring its "terrestrial radiation."

Chief engineer Harald Dirnbacher from Austria's motorway authority ASFINAG explained: ""We were really sceptical at first and certainly didn't want people to know what we were doing, so we kept it secret."

But now the trial results are so impressive officials are spreading the scheme nationwide.

One blackspot's fatal accident rate fell from an average of six per year to nothing after the druid treatment, where they search for negative radiation with dowsing rods.

But the druids warn that they could be fighting a losing battle as the biggest cause of radiation disruption is mobile phone masts. Senior druid Ilmar Tessmann explained: "It is a big job. Every one of these masts spreads negative radiation over an area of 120 to 200 miles. "

We need to get a team of druids up and and give them some stimulus funds. They deserve it as much as some some religious programs do.
I realize this could be a joke. A lot of other sources have published it. Couldn't find it at Snopes, but I might not have entered the right terms.

2. It may not be a spoof, but an old story
The man quoted really does work for the Austrian motorway authority: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.bettertogether.com/Harald_Dirnbacher.862.0.html&ei=Ftv3S7SVG6T20wSHq_DpBw&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBUQ7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3D%2522Harald%2BDirnbacher%2522%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dopera%26hs%3DmJp%26rls%3Den

But it also turned up in 2003:

Druid focuses Earth's energy on road toll
August 11, 2003
...
Gerald Knobloch, who describes himself as an archdruid, used a divining rod to inspect the 275-metre stretch of the A9 in Styria and restore "earth energy lines".

"I located dangerous elements that had disrupted the energy flow," he said. "The worst was a river which human interference had forced to flow against its natural direction. By erecting two stones of quartz at the side of the road the energy lines were restored."

The pillars had a similar function to acupuncture, he said. "Acupuncture needles also restore broken energy lines. What acupuncture does for the body, the stones do for the environment."

Harald Dirnbacher, an engineer from the motorway authority, admitted that they turned to Mr Knobloch as a last resort.

The same story, dug up again? Or has Austria been paying these people all this time?
