Arizona Nun Excommunicated for Approving Emergency Abortion

A Catholic nun in Arizona was recently reassigned and "automatically excommunicated" following controversy after she approved an emergency abortion during a patient medical crisis late in 2009. Sister Margaret McBride was a senior administrator at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix.

A statement released by the hospital said, "In this tragic case, the treatment necessary to save the mother's life required the termination of an 11-week pregnancy. This decision was made after consultation with the patient, her family, her physicians, and in consultation with the Ethics Committee, of which Sr. Margaret McBride is a member." According to The Arizona Republic, the patient suffered from pulmonary hypertension, which limits heart and lung function and can be fatal during pregnancy.

Bastards. They wanted that woman to die.

A fetus 'has no rights', such as 'right to life'. Ones' right to life should not infringe on another's right to life. However, I am well within my rights to take a life (say for self defense) if it means the preservation of my own life.

A bit of a twisted analogy, but conceptually similiar. You can NOT force a pregnant women into any situation that will take her life, EVEN if that means you would be saving the life of 'someone else'.

I applaud the sister, because she probably knew what was going to happen.

9. Just wondering what your replies would have been if the administrator
had been Baptist, or Luthern, or Jewish..in other words any Religion but Catholic....

11. If the administrator had been Lutheran or Jewish, they would not have been kicked out
of their church for this decision. Probably not in case of Baptist either. It is in the old tradition of the Catholic Church to sacrifice the mother's life for the child, if it becomes necessary. Geesh, they don't even approve birth control. How many women died because of that?????

10. The underlying medical condition which can be fatal to both of Mother
and the child. If the child were to survive, he/she would grow up without a Mother. This would also deny any other children that may have already been born of their Mother. Face it...they only care about the unborn until they are born then not so much. The Mother is expendable. She is considered to be an incubator only. She has no real purpose except to hold the seed until it is grown and delivered and then start over again to grow another one and so on and so on and so on.

12. I had an ectopic (ruptured) pregnancy in a Catholic Hospital
Firt thing they did was give me a pregnancy test and then said, "We don't do abortions here." "We will give you something to stop (sic) the bleeding." My OB/GYN was at a delievery, but ordered a sonogram, IV, and my blood pressure monitored round the clock. I got NOTHING but the PG test. I was in that bed for 12 hours, bleeding, and in EXTREME PAIN until my doctor arrived SCREAMING down the the halls when he found me without any medical care.

Bottom line? They didn't want to KNOW that "baby" was DEAD and they were going to have a dead woman, and already a mother to a 3 year old child, on their hands very soon.

If I wasn't prochoice before this, and very much anti-catholic having been in their schools for 12 years, it made me even more so with the fact they almost killed ME.

13. There is something very wrong with a religion
that wants to own a woman's body and soul.
