I think he's handling it correctly.
Obama is more than capable of handling this himself.

2. Picked up from LA Times

There were a few threads on it last week.

I think the main reason is because it can be easily deflected, If I remember the threads substance, since Limbaugh didn't create the idea, he picked up the phrase from a column a few weeks ago in the LA Times by, I believe, an African American writer. He's using it out of context of course.

3. The African American writer

was referring to an archetype used in films, and in some novels. The idea of "the magic Negro" was first put into words by Spike Lee.

He was referring to stock film characters like the black man in The Legend of Bagger Vance, played by Will Smith, and the character played by Don Cheadle in Family Man. Sidney Poitier has played a couple of magic Negroes, too.

Of course, Spike Lee was dismissive of this as a plot device. It is very condescending. It is a way to dislike black people in general, but love a few individuals.

Limbaugh has been careful to credit the LA writer with the words. Of course, he is too stupid to find the real source.

I think Sharpton and Obama are doing the right thing by downplaying the issue. Giving too much attention to that druggie hypocrite plays into his hands. That is exactly what he wants. Ignore him, ignore Coulter, and you destroy their effectiveness.
