I'm reading a lot about this - and its really fascinating.

Ian Smith was far more racist and hateful than any PM of South Africa, but he was the first to capitulate (not that he had much of a choice)

Its a bizarre history...

3. A close friend of mine is a South African expat.
While much of what she has told me about South Africa and Rhodesia is slanted in favor of whites, she has also been surprisingly candid about a lot of things.

One scary bit is that many of the former Rhodesian and South African special ops types are now in Blackwater, Triple Canopy and other similar merc outfits.

5. They'd be the trainers and/or admin types now.
Although some of the South Africans didn't bail out of there until the 90s.

And age isn't necessarily a handicap for "operators".

6. Add to those many of the real bad characters
from the Central American Wars and South America. Yep. Blackwater et al are full of really nasty characters.

8. Not sure but the CIA sure was...
They had national conscription - and this was an unrecognized state...

Like I said, bizarre history
