Hatch May Get Primary Challenge

With the defeat of Sen. Robert Bennett (R-UT) over the weekend, tea party activists are now turning their attention to other GOP primary elections in Utah.

In fact, rumors have been swirling that Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) may face a 2012 primary challenge from Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) -- something Chaffetz "did little to shoot down" when talking to Fox News.

Said Chaffetz: "It's a possibility, I'm not taking anything off the table. This anti-incumbent sentiment is a tsunami that isn't going away... I respect everything Senator Hatch has done, but the question is whether 36 years in the US senate might be enough. Orrin will be 78 in 2012."

1. Speculating on primary challenges two years from now is pointless...
The Tea Party movement could have imploded by then.

4. Yes, but this IS Utah
And the Tea Baggers' success in ousting Bennett is sure to encourage the nutsos into thinking they can do it again. Utah's peculiar structure for deciding on a party nominee means - at the very least - that Hatch needs to curry favor with the Nitwit Brigade. If he fails to take heed from the object lesson of his fellow Senator, Orrin too could be looking at his post-political career options.

2. Holy Elohim! What's in the Utah water supply?
When Orrin Hatch isn't right wing enough for them, who in Brigham Young's name is? :wtf:

5. Yes, I'm doing a little cheer on this one too.
Maybe cleaning out Congress one corporatist, religio-nut at a time is in order.

7. Unfortunately, guess the caliber of people who might be replacing
them. Just younger.

9. I think once the dinosaurs go, you might be pleasantly surprised at
what might come into the light to replace them. Of course we are going to have to help them by changing the way we do elections and that is going to be a BIG job.

10. Chaffetz, a media seeking, homophobic, cow towing, nit wit
..it right up their (tea party)collective alley.

Now, the fact that he's unelectable in the big picture is right up the left's collective alley.

And we also get a chance to be rid of Hatch?

it's a win-win-win in my books.
