I'm gobsmacked by this quote from David Brooks
"I’m feeling grateful to the prez these days because we happen to be in the middle of a bunch of midsized crises. There’s the oil spill in the Gulf (which is verging on a big crisis, I guess). There’s the Times Square bomber. There are various floods in Tennessee and elsewhere. The European Union is falling apart over the Greek debt crisis, and so on and so on. It’s good to have a president with equipoise. It seems to me that Obama is handling his role, which ranges from the marginal to the significant, in these events with calm professionalism. He’s active yet not annoying. He’s not taking credit for everything. He’s not creating friction by making any missteps. He is calm, cool and collected," - David Brooks

I hate the bobo. I think he is not very smart and smarmy.

But, like the stopped clock. . .

4. He liked him quite a bit before he got elected. Obama charmed him way back in 2007

with his knowledge of Niebuhr.

Brooks has certainly had his moments where he got the "tingle down his leg" as Tweety would say. :D

edit to add - I can't resist - I found this when I googled - from a Charlie Rose interview: "BROOKS: He is, like all supreme politicians, you come out of the guy thinking--you come away from the guy thinking, "Oooh, Mr. President, I love you."

6. Usually I groan at Brooks, who tends to waste his considerable
intelligence and talent on right-wing cheerleading, so I hardly know what to say when he actually offers praise for this president.

12. David Brooks recognizes Obama is conservative and governs to the right of Nixon
Brooks especially liked the excise tax on so-called "cadillac" plans.......

13. he's the most liberal president since LBJ. I'll take what I can get and not whine about it
so much more liberal than Clinton.

And considering that LBJ gave us Vietnam, Obama may end up better.

And before LBJ you have to go back to FDR for a liberal prez.
