BILL BERKOWITZ FOR BUZZFLASH

Priests for Life, a long-time anti-abortion organization, launches a campaign aimed at fusing anti-abortion activism to the civil rights movement.

Whatever else one can say about the anti-abortion movement, you have to give it credit for a certain amount of creativity in its single-minded pursuit of totally eliminating a woman’s right to have an abortion. You see this creativity in a broad array of strategies and tactics the movement employs. There have been some relatively big plays recently, including a bevy of new restrictive anti-abortion laws enacted in dozens of states around the country. There is also the awareness of the importance of growing the movement, especially by focusing on bringing young people aboard. Over the past few years, well-trained young anti-abortion activists, armed with hidden cameras aimed at Planned Parenthood clinics, have tried baiting staffers into unlawful activities.

There are a number of other campaigns and actions that try to keep the base focused and keep the issue alive on right-wing news sites and blogs. Did you know, for example, that last week was National Pro-Life T-Shirt Week (NPLTW)? During the week, NPLTW organizers encouraged young people to proudly wear pro-life T-shirts, and in conjunction with the T-shirt campaign, the American Life League, a long-time anti-abortion organization, unveiled the first anti-abortion iPhone application.

3. the whole issue being used is nothing more than a political stunt used to
keep the little people's limited attention span busy enough so it lacks the ability to recognize the real danger to themselves and their livelihoods, case in point, not only politicians but religious leaders as well who easily fall into the same category as politicians..its all smoke and mirrors, will people ever learn from past mistakes?

I am so tired of this idiotic shit and these people that just have to make other folks private business their bidness. It don't concern you, it ain't your family. nobody called you for your opinion or your advice, so since your phone didn't ring, don't answer.

in a thread in which some asshole and his asshole wannabe tried to tie abortion to eugenics.

they want to keep people poor and stupid, if they would be really honest about it. just like the rest of the right-wing extremists in this nation.

13. (ot) how are you doing down there in TN?
I saw pictures of the Cumberland River. (I'm originally from Nashville and still have family members there.)

I hate to say this but it just starting storming again where I am, which means another storm is on its way to TN within the next day or so. :(

16. Thanks for asking...fine here, just soggy here in the SE part
of the state. My heart is breaking for the residents who are flooded. Between this and what's happening in the Gulf, my stomach has been in knots for days.

My oldest is finishing up his second year at MTSU so I visit dnj.com to find out what's going on in and around Murfreesboro, and they had a photo slideshow that had pics of 2 male students swimming beside a campus parking lot off of Bell St. I talked to my son this afternoon and he told me that students had kayaks and canoes there as well yesterday, but the water is going down there. From our conversation he stated that surrounding areas (Smyrna, LaVergne, Waverly, etc.) are hit really hard and that the downtown of Nashville is gonna get it, too.

I hope that your family members are okay.

but, yes, I'm with you on the sadness... especially in the gulf. I also used to live in Miami and cannot imagine the damage that is being done to the entire world b/c of this disaster.

it's heartbreaking.

10. i hate it how people compare pro-life movement to the civil rights movement
Edited on Mon May-03-10 06:55 PM by RobertPlant
if that is true, then why did abortion become legal around the same time as the civil rights movement.

12. "The Preistesses for Life," know that the Creator loves Women just as Much as Men
And they know that the Creator put Women in charge of the

"Door to the Universe," for a reason.

17. Last week on my college's campus,
I was walking across the green and I see large photos of the holocaust and slavery with a big sign proclaiming "Genocide Awareness" I thought it was great to bring awareness until I got closer and saw that the majority of the photos were of aborted fetuses. Students were outraged as it is very hard to reserve the green for any student orgs. but they approved that garbage.
