White House: No New Offshore Oil Drilling
( Notice they say no NEW drilling)

A White House official says there will be no new offshore drilling until a review of the oil well accident that caused a major spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

In an interview on ABC television Friday, White House adviser David Axelrod said officials want to determine what happened and whether there was something "unique and preventable."

A lesson the perils of triangulation at the very least.

3. New offshore drilling wouldn't take place for years anyway.
This announcement is meaningless. The investigation will be long over before any new rigs went in.

Which also exposes the idiocy of the original proposal.

6. True, which is why people acting like it is Obama's fault is idiotic. The problem with stopping
all drilling, coal mining, etc. is that those are what our economy runs on - our cars, homes, etc. Switching to renewables faster is great but slow and takes time although the Recovery Act pumped a lot of money into those fields.

9. Blaming Obama is stupid.
His decision to open up new offshore drilling, though, was a bad idea. This disaster reinforces that it is a bad idea.

5. The power of the dollar is so strong
that nothing except the disaster this is will come of this. It's not Obama's fault, its the fault of greed gone virile

7. Someone should tell Pickens
what the WH actually said. He really sounds callous.

8. WTF??I jut found an update. Interior Dept says WH "mis-spoke".
This is getting weird.
How many times has the WH and/or Obama said something, then the military or some agency
"corrects" him?
Get this:

New Offshore Drilling: Not Quite on Hold

Axelrod suggested any new drilling is on hold. “All he has said is that he’s not going to continue the moratorium on drilling but… no additional drilling has been authorized and none will until we find out what happened here and whether there was something unique and preventable here,” he said.

Shortly after Axelrod spoke, however, White House and Interior Department officials clarified that
currently planned offshore petroleum exploration and production drilling can continue.
The officials said media reports misinterpreted Axelrod’s statement.
The officials said lease sales already planned through 2012 will go ahead, as will planned exploration and production drilling.

Guess that proves who is really in charge.

10. This shows how stupid Republican ideas are.
Obama needs to think twice before turning Repubiican talking points into policy. Fool me once and all.
