Audiotape of Kent State Shooting to Get New Analysis
(April 29) -- A Kent State University alumnus plans to have a cutting-edge analysis performed on an audio recording he made of the historic campus shooting in 1970 in an attempt to determine whether the Ohio National Guard was ordered to open fire on anti-war protesters.

Four students were killed and nine wounded in the clash.

Terry Strubbe, a KSU communications student, pressed the record button on the reel-to-reel machine in his dorm room on May 4, 1970, capturing a chilling 30-minute audio account of the protest, including cries from students, 13 seconds of shooting and the chaos that followed.

After preserving the recording for the past 40 years, Strubbe and a friend, psychologist and occasional music producer Joe Bendo, plan to have it analyzed by a Los Angeles film archivist who will digitize the audio and reduce background noise in an effort to hear whether an order to fire is audible.

4. Good. When you hold on to your recordings, films, pictures, etc.,
instead of turning them over to the police during their "investigation" of the incident at hand, you can come back to the source material later, instead of finding it conveniently altered, or "missing" from the archives...

5. No one ever prosecuted
Just dropped "A Massachusetts acoustics firm analyzed the gunshots documented in Strubbe's recording in 1974 during the prosecution of eight of the National Guardsmen. That case ended with a federal judge dismissing charges. A civil suit was settled with no admission of guilt on the part of the shooters."

6. The reason these guardsmen were in the NG was to avoid being drafted and sent into combat
Just like little boots Bush.

8. This Should Play
interestingly on the right. Hasn't there always been some discussion that the lethal bullets didn't really come from the National Guard?

10. The RW villainized the victims--these mere kids, unarmed and
many only present by circumstance. When I learned that no one had ever been charged with the killings, that the parents were bullied into a mere $15k for their child in settlement and no formal apology was forthcoming--not to mention the fact that Nixon and the Ohio RETHUG governor conspired to crack down and hard on student demonstrations, thereby setting this up to happen--I lost my innocence as well. I can never hear Neil Young and CCNY^s song without crying a bit for those poor kids. And, the attitudes of the RW thugs continue, unchanged. Damn, it is hard not to hate people such as that...
