Arkansas senator candidate's campaign ambulance runs afoul of the law (with pic)

Republican Senate candidate Jim Holt's campaign ambulance may be drawing more attention than intended.

On Monday, Holt held a news conference to show off his new ambulance, with lights flashing in front of the Arkansas Capitol. Holt pledged to drive the ambulance around the state to protest President Barack Obama's health care plan.

But state police spokesman Bill Sadler told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette it is illegal for unauthorized vehicles to have flashing lights, whether they are turned on or not. Sadler says the lights can't flash when the vehicle is parked, either.

If I were a Republican, I'd just say that Nancy Pelosi's policies have me so worked up that I can't even think straight, so the error was clearly the Democrats' fault.

5. Prediction

If he takes out the lights and continues to drive it around the state, at some point someone with a real medical emergency is going to see what looks like an ambulance and put this guy in a position where his stupid gimmick is going to contribute to the death of someone who unfortunately wasted time or had someone waste time not calling 911.

with a couple of flat tires.

On Monday, the Republican from Springdale parked the ambulance, adorned with slogans and a caricature of President Obama wearing a hammer and sickle symbol from the former Soviet Union, in front of the state Capitol to show his opposition to the new federal health care bill recently signed into law.

Holt said he parked the ambulance in front of a friend’s home in Maumelle where he spent Monday night, and awakened today to discover the tires flat.

Asked if he thought vandals caused the problem, Holt said he did not know one way or the other.

“We could have run over a nail, but at the same time (vandalism) wouldn’t surprise me. My friend told me there are a lot of liberals in this neighborhood,” the conservative former state senator joked.
