Do we know what caused the explosion on the oil rig?

Are explosions something that happen from time to time or is this completely unprecedented? Is it possible that sabotage was involved? The timeing of this just seems odd. Within a week or so of the President saying we will open up offshore drilling a major accident occurs. It has me scratching my head..At least it gives us an answer to "Drill Baby Drill".

when their mud mixture failed to circulate. I don't know if that's what happened to the Deepwater Horizon, but it sounds similar.

That rig pumped 10,000 to 30,000 barrels of oil per day from June '79 to March '80, before being capped. It's the second largest oil spill in history, almost 10 times as large as the spill from the Exxon Valdez.
