Do you or don't you think a wall to 'secure the border' of the US is
the way to go?
I'm loathe to post a poll because they're too easy. Tell me why.

(This is a result of a conversation with a friend today)

1. I don't understand why people believe a wall would be a real barrier
to people who are willing to risk drowning in rivers or dying of dehydration in the desert.

Or, why we go for walls and not living wages.

2. I'ts lame as hell.
Because of cost. And cheap Chinese steel being used is going to deteriorate into rusty scrap in a few years, and poor Mexicans will salvage it to build animal enclosures or something.

People would get stuck here who want to go home at night.

So many other reasons.

Will it have guard towers every so many feet? Razor wire, electrical current?

Where are the guards going to come from?

Don't we waste enough money on dumb shit already?!

4. How can we stand for freedom as we construct barriers to freedom?

5. Do we get to paint pretty horses on it, like the Iraqis?
Edited on Thu May-03-07 11:24 PM by Atman

As an artist, I'm all for THIS! Hell, it's only six feet high, and it's even got foot-holds and handles to make it easier to jump across. I can set up a kiosk...maybe poke a hole in the wall, paint a fat lady and a weight lifter on it, let the illegals stick their heads through and take souvenir pictures before they jump over it!

(Sheesh...I'm obviously up way too late).

19. OMFG...thank you so much for that link.
I'm just stunned at the stupidity/absurdity of it all. A trillion dollars and hundreds of thousands of live later and it's come to what? Jersey Barriers. I am so saddened at what this country has done. And that sadness turns to anger when I think about the fact that there is probably a Halliburton invoice sitting on some DOD Accounts Payable desk for twenty thousand Jersey Barriers (installation extra).

Again...thanks for the link. It the evening "news" had been showing this reality instead of the bullshit America is presented, this so-called war would have been de-funded ages ago.

6. Wall will keep us in, but will not keep those determined to enter out....
it has always been that way--see Berlin Wall; which never stopped the East Berliners in finding a way to get to the other side.

8. How high a fence?
Do fences alone work to keep inmates in prison?

How deep do you sink the fences?

where does the fence stop?

moats stocked with alligators, crocidiles and great white sharks seem like a better idea. :sarcasm:

14. Mine too.......
In fact, a fence can sometimes give one something to want to climb up to get to the other side....kinda of like the Cliched riddle "Why did the chicken cross the Road" we hear so often.

17. I agree, like scaling a mountain, because it's there.
Would we be subject to prosecution for climbing over the fence to the other side?

Does that mean we will be "trapped" within our own country?

16. How deep underground does the wall go?
Or are we just making sure the poor people can't get in.

Because you know darn well the drugs will continue to flow. How many tunnels have been found over the years?
