Wasn't it refreshing when Dodd said that McConnell had "lied"?
Mitch literally parroted a Republican talking points memo and said, among other things, that the financial reform legislation contained more "bailouts" for big banks. The bill contains no such provision---nothing that could even be misunderstood to provide such bailouts.

Clearly, there was no misunderstanding. Clearly, McConnell was intentionally saying something he knew was not true.

Senator Dodd did not say he had "misstated" the facts.
He did not say simply that McConnell's statements were "incorrect".
He did not smile and say that "ol' Mitch is playin' fast and loose with the truth".

He said McConnell LIED!

We could use a lot more of that honest and forthright "un-nuanced" talk from our leaders.

1. I could never understand why Kerry never called * a liar in the
debates. I still think that if Kerry, at the second debate, had simply removed his suit coat and carefully laid it on the podium, despite the cold temperature of the room, people would have gotten the message that * had a bug in his ear and the 2004 outcome might have been different. Of course, then there probably would have been some John Edwards scandal and where would that have lead?

2. Creamy, delicious truth-telling
Yes, we do indeed need more of it. Because courtesy only seems to have emboldened these jerks; maybe a little telling it like it is is necessary to blunt these dishonest tactics. When the Republicans get back to civil discourse, we will too; after all, Democrats are the only party practicing it now. But as long as Republicans feel unconstrained by facts or the truth, it's perfectly legitimate to say that they are lying. If they don't like being called liars (and I reckon they don't), they can always stop lying.

7. When you're not running for re-election, it gets a lot easier to do the right thing and
tell the truth.
