Actor Danny Glover, 11 others arrested in Md.

Friday, April 16, 2010

(04-16) 15:02 PDT Gaithersburg, Md. (AP) --

Actor Danny Glover and 11 others have been arrested during a labor union protest at the Maryland headquarters of a food service company.

Montgomery County police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks says Glover and others stepped past yellow police tape and were asked to step back three times at Sodexo headquarters. When they refused, Starks says officers arrested them.

The dozen were issued citations for trespassing and let go. Starks says they face a $1,000 fine or 90 days in jail.

Starks says organizers told police beforehand that some would risk arrest.

The Service Employees International Union was protesting what it calls Sodexo's unfair and illegal treatment of workers. Sodexo says the union was spreading misinformation.

22. Danny Glover for Congress
Mr. Glover should be drafted to run for Nancy Pelosi's seat in Congress. He, not she, has TRUE San Francisco values. He would be honest, courageous and independent, and would fight to end the military/corporate hold on our country. Glover is a great man.

My dad would have LOVED those shoes you pictured. He always wore japanese "toed" socks. (He did everything with his feet)

Thanks!

27. Those pictures present the best of the USA, people like Mr. Glover standing up for other people....
... and also the worst of our country, police departments used to enforce corporate rule.

Funny to see police departments protecting corporate property and interests. I wonder if this is one of those corporations which manage to pay $0 in net taxes. We, the citizens, pay to be oppressed by the same people who skip their fair share. Niiiiiiiice

PS. Good for Danny Glover, a class act through and through. I had the privilege of meeting him in person.

33. I've wondered about that too
aren't most police officers Unionized? (When Mitch Daniels became the Indiana Governor, he forced all state employees to quit their Unions) Before Mitch was Governor, I was arrested at a peaceful Unionization rally in Indiana.

34. A very decent guy who cares about the "little people".
Edited on Sat Apr-17-10 07:43 PM by political_Dem
He could be like the other Hollywood types who only care about their clothes and being botoxed before the next superficial Tinseltown event.

But, Mr. Glover stood with the people and fought alongside of them so they would get better treatment in the workforce.

A purpose-driven life is one where you can stand up for your principles and fight for the benevolent treatment of all people.

Well done.

35. Danny Glover has always been one of us, on the side of decency
In a world of greed and self-centered apathy, this man has used his position, prestige and fame to enact good works and make a positive difference. I'm proud to call Danny Glover a fellow countryman and kindred spirit. Truly an inspiration and an all-around good guy.

Thank you, Mr. Glover, for standing for the people!
