Orwellian Justice System: Spying on Americans Continues Despite Court Order
"A Justice Department spokeswoman, Tracy Schmaler, told the Times that the Obama administration had "overhauled" procedures for invoking the states secrets privilege and that it would be invoked only when "absolutely necessary to protect national security." This is a rank mendacity. Under new guidelines in place since September 2009, as I reported last November, Justice Department officials are supposed to reject the request to deploy the state secrets privilege to quash lawsuits if the Executive Branch's motivation for doing so would "conceal violations of the law, inefficiency or administrative error" or to "prevent embarrassment." Despite strong legal grounds for allowing surveillance and torture cases to go forward, the Obama administration, like the discredited Bush regime before it, continues to stonewall, obfuscate and obstruct"

4. Well of course it continues,
After all, the Dems want to play with all those new toys as well.

One nation, under surveillance.

6. This was the thing that worried me the most
Bad enough that Bush & Co. did these things. Worse, the precedent was set. Worst, no president is going to willingly surrender powers inherited from a prior administration. None has in the past, and none will in the future. This isn't necessarily specific to Obama; if it had been Clinton, Ron Paul or Bobo the Simpleminded who'd won in 2008, they wouldn't have dropped these powers, either.

9. When power is given to The State, The State never gives it up voluntarily.

13. Which is why the "capture or kill" order --
O gave on that American citizen has my knickers is a serious twist. O does it now, offically and above board, and some future fuck President WILL do the same, maybe to someone not so easily dislikable.
