Really, what is keeping George Bush in office? Other that some unfounded fear on the part of Democratic Congressional leaders what on earth is stopping the impeachment of the buffoon?

4. The Power Of The Office...Watch What One Wishes For

While I have zero respect for the squatter crapping all over the Oval Office, I do have respect for the office of President of The United States. History will be the ultimate judge on this regime and I expect this manchild will rank right up there with Buchannan, Hoover & Harding among the worst. The invasion and its enablers will put the Repugnicans in minority status for many years to come.

One day soon, we'll see another Democrat as President and I know many's view of that office will change...pushing for greater executive powers and control...and in some cases it will be needed. Trying to tie the hands of the Executive is a slippery slope as whatever actions are taken against the Executive could be used against that Democrat...gridlocking things.

Bottom line: No matter what the Democrats do, this regime will fight it, ignore it with signing statements or some other underhanded game. The pressure now is and should stay on the Repugnican party...while booooshie will be gone, the party's survival hinges on his "legacy"...and making them pay is the only way to squeeze up on this regime and force change.

Congressional Democrats are right to consider the political cost of a fruitless attempt, especially a political nuke like impeachment. Yes Bush more than deserves to be frog marched out of the White House, but it won't happen, at least by impeachment.

Think of America's self-promoted image.

Now think of everything that has happened since November 2000 (Selection 2000).

Well, if elections are stolen in America and if America invades countries for lies and if America tortures people and if America erodes rights and if America spies on her citizens and if America detains people illegally and if America thrives on fear-mongering and if America lets people die (Katrina) and if America...well, add your own

Then America is not the America it claims to be is it? It isn't the America it wants the world to believe it is

And if such a criminal President can't be removed (for whatever reasons) - then that sorta shatters the idea of checks and balances...checks and balance being foundational to a democratic government.

But....

Let's pretend Bush is just a bad President and not the dangerous thug he really is - well, America has had bad Presidents before...
and let's pretend that torture policy is really just a case of "bad apples" and let's pretend Iraq is just a case of "mistakes made" and not the criminal enterprise it actually is...

pretending allows America to salvage her image of herself...sure, it's tarnished...but goodess..An America where elections are stolen and wars are started over lies and trumped up evidence and an America that tortures? Well, that's far more than just a tarnished image isn't it?


Don't think for a minute that Bush isn't counting on how much shit America will eat to protect that image...

Some folks want substance even if it means exposing ugly truths and the hard work of rebuilding....some folks would rather preserve the image even if it means living a lie.
