Gov. McDonnell declares April "Confederate History Month" in Virginia
Edited on Tue Apr-06-10 03:47 PM by TrollBuster9090
I had originally thought the GOP might groom McDonnell to run against Obama in 2012, given that Romney would never pass the GOP religious litmus test, Giuliani would never pass the "country boy" test, and Huckabee seems to be falling off his diet plan. Also, McDonnell had the advantage that he could claim Palin-style "executive experience" (meaning you've technically been a governor of a state, but you haven't been a governor long enough to have had to do anything unpopular...like compromising on your insane ideology in order to make it fit the world as it is, rather than how you'd like it to be).

However, by declaring April as Confederate History Month in Virginia, he appears to have just shot himself in the foot in terms of national politics. That kid of thing goes over very well with the States Rights crowd in Dixie, but the rest of the country isn't really that in to Civil War dress-up games.

7. Did he issue a proclamation?
WHEREAS The Southern States, in a treasonous breach of the Constitution did wage war against the United States of America, and
WHEREAS The Southern states were defeated in that seditious uprising,

We The People of Virginia do humbly apologize for the loss of lives and disruption of progress.

Signed,

McDonnell, Governor

9. Great! Today is the 145th anniversary of the Confederate defeat at Sayler's Creek!
Friday is the 145th anniversary of Lee's surrender at Appomattox! The 26th is the 145th anniversary of Beauregard's surrender in Durham!

Remembering the Confederacy as I like to remind it!

10. Know what's really telling? VA is chock full of Revolutionary War
history too -- and April was the month that the Rev War started -- but, except for a few people who reenact in Leesburg and the Yorktown, VA site where the Rev War was finally won when Lord Cornwallis surrendered, you hardly ever hear ANYTHING in this state about the war that founded this country! But Civil War shit.....you can't get away from it! The uniforms, the reenactors, the dozens of Civil War sites, hundreds of books, pix of Southern generals, etc., etc. Guess we know what's important in THIS state....

11. Everyone who fought for the confederacy was guilty of treason.
Not one confederate soldier died for a noble cause.
The confederacy lost and they as well as their successors could never accept that fact.
