Breaking: Right Wing Begins Internet Attacks
Edited on Tue Apr-06-10 03:02 PM by Ian David
Following a coordinated window smashing campaign by angry conservatives following the historic passing of health care reform, the attacks have now moved to cyberspace. Various websites critical of the Tea Parties, Sarah Palin, and the right wing overreaction to health care reform have begun experiencing DDOS attacks by hackers.

Sarah Jones, reports:
Politicususa has been told we are under DDOS attack. It is not a spammer, it is a deliberate attack. Our server host is diligently working to resolve this issue and if they can determine the origin of the attacker, they will be prosecuted.

According to unnamed sources, there have been attacks on at least 4 other progressive websites after stories on Sarah Palin, all which all prefer not to be mentioned, including 2 major ones. The attack on PoliticusUSA, administrated by Jason Easley, is the most extensive attack on a progressive website during this wave however, and the site was still down at publishing time.

These coordinated attacks are the latest from an increasingly desperate and radical conservative movement following the landslide victory of Barack Obama and progressive Democrats in the 2008 election. They follow such deplorable acts as windows getting smashed in multiple locations (mainly Democratic offices), people being spit on, a man repeated ramming a car that had an Obama bumper sticker, a hero of the Civil Rights movement being called a “nigger”, assassination threats, the openly gay Congressman Barney Frank being called a “faggot”, a propane line being cut at at a residence, a mysterious white powder being mailed, a noose being faxed, and threats to kill the children of a member of congress who voted for reform.

<snip>

There has been a clear trend going on for the last 18 months since Sarah Palin entered the political landscape. The rhetoric has been jacked up to epic levels, and the fear, hate, and intolerance has grown exponentially as a result. In response to the health care vote, she told her followers on Facebook: “Don’t retreat, RELOAD!”

1. The good news is that they're not very smart
They're going to launch a DOS attack on the wrong nerd, who won't bother going to the authorities but will deal with the malefactor in ways too horrible to contemplate.

6. Unless they're smart enough to use a bot-net...
Installed on unsuspecting proxies via a virus payload, a DOS attack from a bot-net would be traceable to each proxy host machine, but necessarily the attacker themselves.

9. Yeah
I write for that site (I am Sarah Jones) and they ji-jacked computers from around the world, over 100 different IP addresses a minute coming in. Host said it was most relentless attack they'd seen. It went on for ten days.

Hard to track? Yes. However, some people are stupid and announce themselves in other ways:-)

Site owner wrote a scathing smack down of them.

8. I Think They Are Dangerous Too
it scares me to live here anymore. I am an openly gay male living with his partner of 20 years in a small WV town. Does anyone else think times have changed enough I should consider moving?
