Verizon CEO Confirms Pursuit of iPhone
But Ivan Seidenberg Declines to Say When Popular Phone Might Be Available for Verizon Wireless Customers

(CBS/AP) Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg says the company has told Apple that it wants to carry the iPhone. But he declined to say when - or even if - the popular smart phone will be available for Verizon Wireless customers.

In remarks Tuesday before the Council on Foreign Relations, Seidenberg cited a recent Wall Street Journal report that said Apple is working on a version of the iPhone that would be compatible with Verizon's network.

But he did not confirm the report or give any further details Tuesday.

AT&T Inc. has exclusive rights to the iPhone in the United States. The company has been silent about the reports on the new iPhone model.

Apple is expected to announce details on a new iPhone operating system Thursday in Cupertino, Calif.

1. It's funny, I live in bizarro phone world.
My house and neighborhood is in a Verizon dead zone. Has been for at least three years.

Every six months they promised to fix it, and never did. My friends with AT&T phones all had service in my house, I never did. Switch to the Death Star was made, presto I have a phone I can use again. Happens to be an iPhone, last year's model which got cheap.

6. I'm waiting to see what OS 4.0 offers. But as of now I agree with you. I really like the nexus one

5. Me too.
Had horrible coverage - both at home and work - with both Verizon and Sprint. Got an iPhone a year ago, both locations have 5 bars. The tradeoff is that I'm completely out of service when I visit my relatives in a rural area. But that's pretty rare and frankly I don't mind being inaccessible at that time.

2. I'm not really in the mood to pay $100 /month for service with verizon
but I'm eager to see the details of this new phone since I've been wanting to upgrade my old blackberry 8800 for a while now.

8. I still don't believe Apple will ever build a CDMA iPhone.
It won't hit Verizon until they implement their LTE network to the point that a CDMA backstop is not necessary.
