It's Gonna Be REAL Interesting To See How The WH Handles The Wikileaks Tapes...
They may wish this would just go away. They may want to "move forward, and not look back", but I think this is gonna be WAY TOO HOT for them to go down that particular road.

1. It's going to be interesting to see how the MSM handles it.

3. Well... It's Been Moving Up (Down Maybe) The Media Food Chain All Day...
Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 03:21 PM by WillyT
Been picked up by blog after blog all day, this (MSNBC) is the first I've seen on the Television machine.

But I agree... I'm betting there are emergency meetings all over Washington and New York as we speak.

The Network News shows will be the first test tonight.

19. No mention on PBS News Hour but....

5. Keith maybe. Rachel probably. Other than that, I bet they won't touch it.
Obama won't either because he is too busy looking forward.

Hope I'm wrong, tho.

2. I'm afraid it's not.
You and I will be outraged, as will any American with any humanity left. However the apologists are already out in force on DU and if we are seeing apologists on what is supposed to be the left wing haven, this will get filed under, "so what". Worst that will happen is the Tea Baggers will call this a liberal plot to stop the war and Obama will have to defend the video.

6. It isn't so much "so what?" as a profound sense of helplessness and despair.
That's what I'm feeling right now. I just broke the story on another discussion board, yet I can't bring myself to post the link on my Facebook page or send out a big group e-mail heads-up to my friends and family.

What I'm feeling right now is a profound sense of futility, because I know already there isn't one damn thing we can do about it! I already know what everyone else here knows: There will be NO accountability.

"Our" troops commit mass murder in our name in a war zone, gunning down civilians and journalists doing their job. We have incontrovertible evidence of it, we are witnesses right through the murderers' own gunsight. But there will be no court-martial; nobody will be held accountable. It doesn't matter how many petitions we sign or how many demonstrations happen over the next few months.

We have lost control of our government and there isn't ONE damn thing we can do about it! They have ALL the power and we have NONE. About the only choice we seem to have left is whether to confront this reality head-on or continue in denial.

I think if I were capable of lying to myself, I'd be strongly tempted right now. Fortunately (or unfortunately) that just isn't an option for me.

13. I think we'd be very naive to assume that it isn't happening *now*.
While I'd like to think that our new CinC is a more human president, this is the face of modern war. Casual death.

I guess we're supposed to be grateful that "permission to engage" has to be asked and granted.

God damn all war.

9. AlJazeera interviewed WikiLeaks' editor as Breaking News
therefore the rest of the world knows ALL ABOUT IT. The WH and the Pentagon will have to talk about it.

11. Easy. Pass the buck to the MIlitary.
Military draws out the "investigation" for a few years until 99.9% of the people forget about it. Then quietly release the results on a Friday afternoon.

12. I wish
I'll say it right now, nothing will ever make Obama or any future president investigate what happened in Iraq. Yes these tapes are a huge deal to anyone with a conscience but there is already so much fucking evidence of criminal abuses in Iraq that if it was going to happen it would already be over with and the entire Bush administration would be in jail for life.

Nothing and I mean nothing will force any president to investigate what happened there, we have soldiers just shooting at people for no reason and apparently that's not enough evidence, so my point is that nothing will ever be enough.

16. More interesting to see how PBS handles it on the News Hour.
That is... IF it handles it at all.

Starts right now on the east coast.
