Big huge mclarge magnetic ropes develop between the earth and the sun
Edited on Sat Mar-27-10 08:44 PM by HysteryDiagnosis
every 8 minutes or so. Current flows along these magnetic ropes.... these ropes power the Aurora Borealis. Who knew???

These "ropes" are the diameter of the earth often times... that's some hemp. Quite often the current flowing from the sun to the earth creates explosions in the bow shock of the earth.

http://blogs.nature.com/news/thegreatbeyond/2007/12/magnetic_ropes_power_40kmh_aur.html

A pathway for this power has also been uncovered - twisted bundles of magnetic fields dubbed ‘magnetic ropes’. “The satellites have found evidence of magnetic ropes connecting Earth's upper atmosphere directly to the sun. We believe that solar wind particles flow in along these ropes, providing energy for geomagnetic storms and auroras,” says David Sibeck, project scientist for the mission at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

THEMIS also spotted explosions where the solar wind first feels our planet’s magnetic field, an area known as the bow shock. “Sometimes a burst of electrical current within the solar wind will hit the bow shock and—Bang! We get an explosion,” says Sibeck.

6. I don't know if you clicked on the link or not but just the same, check
out this number.... reminds me of doc in Back to the Future...

In March this year satellites and ground-based instruments from THEMIS observed an eruption in the Northern Lights over Canada. This substorm was witnessed moving at over 39,000 kilometres per hour and it is estimated that its total power consumption during its two-hour life was a colossal five hundred thousand billion Joules

8. it sure would nice....
....to have some way to tap into all that energy and lower my electric bill....maybe a huge coil on several large weather balloons tethered to my back porch with copper cables....

9. Yeah, a kite, string and a key wouldn't get very far... too bad.

An artist's conception of an aurora (red and green stripes) appears over a series of NASA ground stations (blue circles) used to monitor a series of orbiting satellites dubbed THEMIS.

New findings from the THEMIS probes suggests that the northern lights, or aurora borealis, are fueled by magnetic "ropes" linking the sun and Earth.

15. isn't....
....it our earths magnetic field produced from currents in our molten iron core that keeps the solar wind from blowing away our atmosphere? Wouldn't these magnetic 'ropes' have the potential to distort and possibly damage our magnetic field?

....I'm calling Dr. Mbogo first thing in the morning....

20. Surely you jest... 8 is the number ACCORDING to the
woo woos at NASA... never mind the mention of flux transfer and electricity and all the other nonsensical stuff. You just keep eating your corn puffs and pretend this is an article from The Onion.

There are many unanswered questions: Why do the portals form every 8 minutes? How do magnetic fields inside the cylinder twist and coil? "We're doing some heavy thinking about this at the Workshop," says Sibeck.

Meanwhile, high above your head, a new portal is opening, connecting your planet to the sun.

17. Oh yeah.... another graphic gives a better idea of just how much
sh*t is flying around out there...

The hear of the sun's atmosphere propels charged particles and strong magnetic fields outward as a solar wind. The Earth's magnetic field (blue) is distorted by the fierce wind as the solar energy seeks a way in. The five THEMIS probes, strung out like pearls on a string in their orbit around Earth, hope to discover how and where the solar energy leaks through the magnetosphere and generates the Northern and Southern Lights. (Note that the figure is not to scale.). (NASA image)
Five satellites launched last February to probe magnetic storms around the Earth will move into prime observing position next month, but they already have produced important new information on the interactions between the solar wind and the Earth's magnetic field.
