except that he made it sound like he was saying Obama HIMSELF is from Kenya...oops. No, Keith needed to point that out right away. No, Obama is NOT from Kenya.

But I don't see anything so horrible about saying that he is descended from a country that produces great long-distance runners. Is it racist or an ethnic slur to say that people of Dutch heritage are descended from a country that produces great speed skaters? Or if Obama had a Canadian parent, would it be bad to say he pursued health care reform with the persistence of a hockey player trying to score a goal?

Hell, I even tell people I am stubborn and carry grudges because of my combined German and Italian heritage. And that's stereotypical of me to say, but I'm saying it.

I don't think it should always be off limits to make reference to people's heritage if they're of color. Or at least it should be judged in terms of what you say. If it's cliched crap about watermelons, fried chicken, natural rhythm, etc., yeah, that's racist. But I don't think this qualifies.
