Why are there right wing ads on DU?
I know the answer is that they are put up by google. But I still don't understand. Why can't they be blocked? I find them offensive. I donate to this site so I can avoid that Right Wing rubbish.

In advance of the google explanation, can the National Organization for Woman advertise on a Christian site? Can a Pro-Choice ad pop up on a Catholic web site? Is there an AFL-CIO Ad on the Chamber of Commerce site? You will not find anti-union ads on union web sites, why do I see them here?

I never, ever, ever never see pro-union or left wing support ads on Drudge. Why do we have right wing shit here?

Do we need the money that bad? Don't I contribute enough? Tell me how much I have to give to keep tea bagging ads off this site. Give me a figure.

I just don't get it.

1. They are everywhere right now.
Americablog had some just now. Let them spend their money. I clicked on Scott Brown's ads hundreds of times. Each click costs them money.

4. Why are you using an inferior web browser?
Use Firefox with Adblock Plus and you never see ads on any site.

It speeds things up and all sites look different.

I don't understand why people complain about something so easily corrected.

At the cost of half your RAM and 50% more crashes, in my AdBlock experience.

9. Report them when you see them; it's just that simple.

Keep looking. Especially if it's a forum with lots of news articles of a political bent being posted, you'll see such things. I don't follow Chamber of Commerce sites, but I've seen NOW ads on Christian sites, pro-choice ads on Catholic sites, evangelical Christian ads on pagan sites, and so on and so forth.

There's no malice there. There's nobody consciously saying we must expose the poor DUers to more badthink through the ads or anything. There's nobody screening for ideology at the point of origin or setting up acceptable whitelists or anything. If you see something that shouldn't be here, just tell the admins, since they're good about having such ads removed.

11. As a donor, you can block google ads in your preferences. You can also email the Admins
about the ads & if you provide info about the specific ads, they can block them from the site.

14. Since you have a donor star:
Under Options, go to Preferences...

At the bottom of the page, you will find "block Google ads, donor only" Click there.

End of problem...

16. A person can be a Christian AND a member of the National Organization for Women.
What, you think the two groups are by definition mutually exclusive? Why??

And if your answer has something to do with abortion, be informed: not all Christians are anti-abortion.

26. Organizations.
There are very few pro-choice Christian organizations. In fact, I can't think of any that are actually sponsored by the Church. Please exclude secular groups that are not actually Church sponsored. Kind of like Log cabin
Republicans really don't prove the the Republican party is pro-gay rights. anyway, I digress.

I agree that many individual Christians are Pro-choice. Probably a majority. Even Catholics. However, I don't think there are many Christian groups, especially Catholic organizations, that are publicly pro-Choice.

If you can link me to some, I would appreciate being enlightened.

28. It depends on the church.
There may not be many advertising their pro-choice stance publicly, but they exist.

I do know I wouldn't belong to a church that wouldn't allow me to be a member of a feminist organization. In any case, thank you for clarifying that when you implied that NOW and Christianity were at cross purposes, it was specifically on the matter of abortion rights and not regarding feminism as a whole.

20. Drudge uses a different ad service than DU
Edited on Sat Mar-20-10 07:32 PM by blogslut
DU displays BlogAds and ads from Google Adsense. BlogAds is easier to filter because they offer packages based on political tastes - Advertise Liberally. Google Adsense is more difficult for the publishing site to filter/target because those ads are keyword-based, meaning that if DU were to block ads using the word "Republican", that would prevent a Democratic candidate (who includes that word in their ad campaign) from being seen on DU. Google Adsense ads must be filtered out after the fact.

I think Drudge recently changed advertising services to AdTech because the ad service he used before was installing adware on his reader's machines. If you go to a site and you see a banner offering "free wallpaper"...whatever you do, don't click it.

Google Adsense may be tedious but they don't deal in trickery.
