FDL is going after Kucinich
Edited on Wed Mar-17-10 03:35 PM by berni_mccoy
Not only has FDL thrown Kucinich under the bus, they're going to get their money back from him.

If anyone needed any proof that FDL = Teabagger/Norquist, this ought to be the ringing that knocks the clue-phone off the hook.

If you still don't get that FDL is just plain wrong at this point, you simply never will.

On Edit: FDL links posted here ought to be treated with the same skepticism we give World Nut Daily.

Meanwhile, Jane Hamsher at Firedoglake is furious:

A thousand people have donated over $16,000 to Dennis since yesterday to thank him for standing up for what he believes in. We’ll be asking him to return it.

Edited on Wed Mar-17-10 03:56 PM by t0dd
Jane just sent this email to supporters:

Despite our best efforts to show Dennis Kucinich we had his back - Firedoglake raised more than $17,000 for his campaign in just two days - Kucinich announced this morning that he'll vote yes for the Aetna-PhRMA bailout bill.

I spoke with Dennis following his speech, and his campaign will return the money to those who have donated in support of his pledge to vote against any health care bill that does not have a public option. It's the honorable thing to do.

Once the other 64 members of Congress who pledged the same abandoned Kucinich, it became hard to expect Kucinich to carry the weight of the health care bill on his back alone. That said, it is both disheartening and illuminating to realize that the progressives in Congress have no true commitment to anything but putting on a show.

...

I'm sorry that we have lost someone on whom we thought we could rely to oppose this corrupt bailout for the insurance industry. But rest assured, we have not yet given up this fight.

FDL expects him to return the money that was donated to him since he couldn't keep his pledge. That's not "going after him". Nowhere is he being attacked. But nice attempt at spreading a lie.

I only consider them loony when they don't a democratic president and agenda that we all fought so hard to get into office. If the republicans and that website are successful in killing HCR then it will also likely kill the democratic agenda and majorities in congress.

You'd be correct IF the bill didn't have a mandate with no public option/medicare buy-in.
If that was the case, I would completely agree with you. Unfortunately it's not the case, so they're being quite consistent. And a purist or idealist would insist on ONLY single payer, but almost no one has done that.

Just about everyone being smeared as a "purist" has actually been willing to do quite a bit of compromise. So while you might disagree with FDL's stance, you have to be fair about it.

21. Some comments from Jane's article
http://fdlaction.firedoglake.com/2010/03/17/dennis-kucinich-will-return-money-to-donors/#comments

Is there any “law” he can’t change his mind again?

He sure threw away a good chance to do a Grandstand speech-spectacle, and gain notoriety there!

so even if it is the perogotive of a woman… (strike through text.. I don’t know how) He’s eminently now just one of the boys,,, and can move along,

DK was kind of a disgrace at the mock debates last year, and I would have liked seeing him walk across the room and physically harass the moderater of it, for the gratuitous remarks etc.

So not so presidential after all maybe, wait to see. No need to rush to any judgements in these things.

Dennis said he caved to save Obomba’s phony image. That’s worthy of whose respect?

Put his neck out until Mr Hope and Change said “stop it or else”….not really putting one’s neck out, is it? Would wager he had support of his constituents and bottom line, his vote might have meant hardly anything on the No side, except to make him true to his words. You don’t get respect, you earn it or throw it away. He threw it away. Now if he ever decides to tell everyone why, now that would be interesting.

If nothing else, Jane, you’ve exposed many self-described progressive members of Congress as a bunch of liars.

Watching them fold, one by sickening one, has taught me that many progressives in Congress are progressive in name only and not progressive in fact.

Those who have caved to Obama should not only return the money, they also should renounce the progressive label they principally employ to con us into thinking they give a shit.

Just take a breeze through the comments in response to Jane's demand for the money back. They are not too kindly toward Rep. Kucinich.

The only bus he's been under has been the one that you and bunch of DUer's have had him under for the past couple of weeks.

Dennis is voluntarily giving back the money, not being forced like you assert. He broke his pledge and feels that the money must go back. Not sure how many people will take the money back, but it's his perogative to try and return it. Heaven forbid we have someone who take responsibility for their actions in Congress...

Here's a little enlightenment for you..

Dennis changed his vote; FDL "goes after" him; we're getting closer to passing the health insurance reform bill; forced birthers in our own party are signing onto the bill because it does nothing to stop forced births for those of the "least of us"...wow. You must be in heaven.

Hmm, it also seems your truce about Kucinich threads is worth the paper it's written on.

One more thing, you view FDL with skepticism but post here from FDL as though it's fact. Funny, that.

FDL is not "going after him" by requesting a refund. They've done it with the other 64 members who signed the pledge to not vote for a bill without a PO. They should all return any and all monies donated to them. At least Dennis has the integrity to do so right away. Happy now?
