Free Food, Free Camping, Free Hope for Real Change
Cindy Sheehan camps out on National Mall

"We are committed to doing this until we see activity from the government," said Sheehan, referring to the anti-war protestors resolve to remain on the National Mall.

Sheehan said that each day this week there will be "teach-ins and training for non-violent civil resistance until Monday when the action starts."

The "action" will be blocking intersections in the nation's Capital as well as protesting at offices, she said. But Sheehan noted "we don't want to divulge what we are doing because we don't want law enforcement to be able to organize against us beforehand for our actions."

After a trip to Target to load up on necessary camping supplies as well as tables and chairs it would appear that Sheehan has no plans on leaving.

3. Because Obama is in power, this protest might go big!
People have less fear that Obama will send the goons to shoot pepper spray and beat people as happened at the FTAA and inaguration of George W.

People might also have the feeling that Obama might listen!

Obama might listen people!!! He and his sweet little family might hear actually hear our voices and care!!

I know we are all under the curse of learned helplessness, but this is still America and if we all stand up together and demand an end to this mindless killing for Corporations and instead turn toward helping our own citizens in desperate need right now.... at the very least we will show that we do still have a soul...the soul of the nation is still ALIVE!...isn't it??

2. So many people are angry, so many people have finally had enough!!
This thing could get huge!

"Beginning March 13th, we will erect a tent city on the grounds of the Washington Monument as a base camp for our actions, community gathering and activites.

Your commitment can range from the entire action: Until our demands are met; or any other chunk of time that you are available.

Acts of civil resistance will begin on Monday, March 22nd and we will end when the troops start to come home.

Individual commitment will entail an at least a once a week CR mission and support to the group at large through contributing to the running and infrastructure of our encampment and the care and feeding of activists. "

6. learned helplessness
"Learned helplessness, as a technical term in animal psychology and related human psychology, means a condition of a human being or an animal in which it has learned to behave helplessly, even when the opportunity is restored for it to help itself"

Bush is gone people!! Obama is a whole new game, we just still feel helpless.

14. A RW troll that spent years here complaining about the traffic protests cause.
You two would have hit it off.

15. I see
It's the "you must be a right wing troll" because you disagree with me argument.

I'm sure there's no better way to promote a cause than to spread misery to random people. Especially when you do it in an area that's largely on the same side you are.

18. No, I don't think you're a troll at all.
Just pointing out that your argument on this issue is identical to one we had here for years.

Cindy lost a son. THAT'S misery, not a traffic delay.

20. How does that make making other people miserable a good idea
Or even a good for the anti-war movement?

I don't understand this "Cindy lost a son" argument as a basis for essentially saying that anything she does is okay and/or a good idea.

I have no issues with this beyond the "shutting down intersections" and other attention grabbing things that will do little but

A) Make things harder on a group of people who are, by and in large, working class stiffs going to and from their jobs. WHy can't this be confined to the national mall where it will be in the spotlight AND not screw up the day of people who want to get to, or from, their jobs in a semi-timely manner.

B) Provide and endless litany of sounds bites and images for Faux News and other right-wing talking heads. I'm sure this protest will get headlines. They just won't be good ones.

C) Paint the anti-war movement as a bunch of far left loonies committing random acts of vandalism and annoyance.

Especially when it's being done in one of the bluest areas of the nation with a population base that's is statistically on your side already.

16. nothing says 'wake the fu** up- get out of your damn bubble'
quite like shutting down DC with a million people.

It's time we remind them that the government works for we the people, not the other way around.

17. Here's the Thing
You're not going to bother the government.

You are going to bother normal, working class people trying to get to and from their jobs. But hey, I'm sure that'll help the anti-war cause. People love it when strangers make their lives miserable! Wait...

they might start to notice.
