MySpace Jumps the shark
From Bob Harris at This Modern World:

MySpace redefines “cool”

If this isn’t jumping the shark, I don’t know what is. Grabbed from the “Cool New People” bit on the right-hand side of the MySpace login page:

Wow. Mitt Romney? That’ll bring the kids to the secret shows.

MySpace has completely redefined the word “cool.”

Also, “new,” come to think of it.

2. they've had politicians as "cool profiles" for weeks now
but yes, they have jumped the shark wearing a leather jacket with it's hair slicked back.
And yes, I still have my page up.

3. That site scares me,
I recently discovered that a 37 yearold woman I work with has a MySpace page, the link has been much emailed at work and the page is just really creepy, half narcissistic - lots of pictures of her in her BMW and lots of pictures of her with guys who probably aren't 18... if she was a man someone would have called the police by now.

4. I just used it to nail an adulterer
They had posted pics from a trip that they had taken on her page. The client was pissed, but I laughed my ass off. It really was the icing on the cake as it were.

20. I recently used it to nail my husband
his "girlfriend" posted pictures of them together and talked about their sex life. I had no idea who she was and no idea about the affair at all. And I have no idea how I found the page but I started to believe in God that day.

5. Narcissistic... that's the word alright...
I knew this chick who had a page on about every site like that around... friendster, dating sites... and it was all about her tattoos (full sleeves, back, chest, shoulders, etc) and how she never knew anyone "man enough" to be able to handle her. My boyfriend was reading an online paper from his hometown, and there was an ad on the front page... apparently a personals section of said publication... let's just say we recognized her by her ink. *shudder*

Why? Why would anyone do that? I can't imagine.

Scary stuff.

cheesy narcissistic behavior... so I don't go there anymore... and wouldn't know that others have a different tactic there. So, you've enlightened me. Thanks.

17. It's very popular for musicians...

And a useful tool, for starters its a free place to post your songs for sharing with friends/family/band-mates.

Its also good for musicians looking to network.

And smaller bands doing the club circuit.. if you see a band coming to your local club you are not familiar with.. you can go sample their music at their myspace page.

I could go on, but you get the idea.

15. reality tv culture I guess,
I am just blown away that a professional woman in her late 30's would post pictures of herself sitting in her car in nothing but a yellow bra, to say nothing of the pictures of her seemingly intoxicated with teenagers. With the text of the page being borderline x-rated.

What has made the page all the bigger joke is to see her at work you wouldn't suspect all this wild shit, until this link got around she was seen as very prudish and assumed to be very religious. She never talked about her private life and nobody cared because it probably wasn't that interesting

Meanwhile I got uncomfortable when my girlfriend posted pictures on a website of a trip we took with some other couples. I guess your either an exhibitionist or your not.

16. I think you are right
And I think that lady in your office got carried away. Seems like the kind of thing you wouldn't want ANYONE to know. And in this day and age, if it's on the Internets, people who know you will know all about you.

Sick and twisted about the teenagers! Ugh!

I had this conversation with a couple of men lately... all I'll say about that is... not everything a teenager wants is good for them. I think that includes getting drunk with someone nearly twice their age! EW!!!

Apparently Bob Harris is so far behind the times he does not realize that.

27. MySpace is a freaking joke
I honestly cannot get anyone over 15/16 years old having any interest in that hell hole.

My niece is a Principal at a local high school and at least once a week the police come in to talk to a kid who is a victim of stalkers from My Space. It's creepy.

28. Know what else??? NO longer is there a GAY option
If you go to Edit profile, and then to Lifestyles, youre available options are Bi, Lesbian, Straight, Not sure, or In a Relationship.

No Gay.

So on myspace, youre allowed to be a man who sleeps with other men, AS LONG as you also bang girls. Hysterical and not at all surprising.

29. Thats unacceptable....
...I only use MySpace to connect with bands (Metal) for my online radio station. I dont use it for anything else, its only for the station.

I am a rare breed a Gay Metal Head, it throughs the laymen so far off track it causes their head to explode. The cant figure me out, I know some of my mannerisms say one thing but the Metal T's through them over the edge with confusion.
