Someone tell me that we are not collectively boned
Wealth is being concentrated in fewer and fewer hands, public education is under assault even from within the "progressive" camp, manufacturing jobs are basically gone or going to be, gun nuts are hoarding weapons and speaking in apocalyptic terms, the right wing's thirty year assault on government has sunk in and distrust or outright hatred of government (i.e. ourselves) is now universal so the only institution available to resolve our problems is now dominated by self serving intellectually dishonest layabouts with nice haircuts.

We are boned.

We talk about mass protests ala the 30's and 60's but now we have American Idol and Dancing With the Stars to subdue us into comfortable indifference. There will be no mass protests against the banksters or For real HCR or to oppose the dismantling of our public education system.

Sorry but I'm fuckin pissed and disheartened and i fear for my son's future in a nation rapidly approaching fuedalism.

15. +1
We also have had no children for that very reason, amongst others.

of the first posts of 20,000 DUers.

Welcome to DU. :hi:

we are wholly-deeply-invariably-and-inevitably screwed... in my opinion.

11. I agree with you. The problems of the USA may seem

insurmountable, but believe that we can make our way forward even when the GOP and their crazies want to drag us down.

Don't have kids, but just for myself...my wife and I occasionally talk about moving to Canada, or some other nation that isn't so insane...if things continue on their current path, the talk will cease to be idle chit-chat.

6. Not as 'boned' as we were when idiot son was around, and for
that I'm grateful. Yes, problem resolution takes time, especially when there were and are mounds of them to contend with. I like the fact that we have a smart man in office who's slowly trying to whittle down the mounds.

12. I think Obama has slowed the Fascist takeover...
...he hasn't stopped it--but we're not going at the breakneck speed when
Bush was ensuring that every neocon dream was coming true.

Obama has slowed it down. But really, there's only so much a President can do,
when a cabal has its talons in everything behind the scenes.

He's doing the best he can. He knows better than anyone else that we no longer
have a functioning democracy.

It won't be long before they regain power again. This time...we're going off the cliff.
I don't think the PNAC/neocon crowd anticipated an Obama win. They had a lock with Hillary
on one side and McCain on the other--two people who are clearly friendly to their
warmongering, corporatist agenda. They'll be back in power soon--after they do whatever
is necessary to regain it: Dissuade Obama from running again, steal votes, sabotage
elections, bribe, blackmail, create another "Pearl Harbor event" (their words, not mine).

So...I suggest everyone prepare now. Cause the wagon is going slowly down the hill now, but
soon it's going to accelerate at breakneck speed. Prepare now. I am saving every cent
we have. Not that money will inoculate us, but I expect the economy to further tank--and
money is important to lessen the blows that are coming.

7. collectively boned
they've done an excellent job this time around to make sure that any dissent that arises during the boning will be on the right not the left.

peeps / sheeps dither with moot complaints

Obama is trying his best to rectify the sit...Pubs obstruct with defiant NO to everything.

They are a Negative Force which is KILLING THE AMERICAN DREAM

THE GOPers are NOT the way to GO into the FUTURE...they are counter advancement....they like to destroy, not construct....

14. Thank you. What you write makes a lot of sense.

I've been seeing more DUers, or maybe they are just trolls, going for the gloom and doom scenario, but when they are pushed to defend their words they won't or can't.

It is almost as if some on DU would rather usher in the end times instead of fighting the corruption of the GOP and their army of crazies.

There have been a few times where this country (USA) was in danger and we pulled through, and I am sure that there were doom and gloomers who were saying then that the country would collapse.

It just seems like wanton cheer leading for the end.
