Yep.

It isn't that we don't make hardly anything anymore.

Or, that we are all flat ass broke and can't spend money even if we want to....

Nope.

According to the story:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100303/ap_on_bi_go_ec_fi/us_economy

"When the government releases its new employment report on Friday, analysts expect it will show that the unemployment rate nudged up to 9.8 percent in February as companies slashed 50,000 jobs. The snowstorms, however, could lead to much steeper job losses for the month." (referring to the snowstorms that hit the East coast last month)....

Oh. And, the Yahoo homepage headline for the story containing this news:

Economy continues to grow despite crippling snowstorms!

Surreal. And, weird. Just really, really WEIRD.

1. People didnt lose jobs in a snowstorm
And they certainly didnt have time to be counted as unemployed if they did.

Typical DC excuse.

4. It's Pretty Common to Make That Point
You can see the effects of bad weather in lots of economic numbers, even telephone usage. It's a pretty well established effect. It may not mean that there were more layoffs, just fewer companies hiring. Here's one quote:

Joseph LaVorgna, chief U.S. economist at Deutsche Bank (DB) writes Feb. 11:

In the past, major winter weather events have had a measurable impact on a range of economic indicators including employment, industrial production, retail activity and real estate/construction.

There is even a company whose business is specifically measuring the impact of weather on business and economics.
